Hello, GrannyMy.
My name is aommaster and I will be helping you with your log.

I apologize for the delay in response we get overwhelmed at times but we are trying our best to keep up.
If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, I would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following below so I can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

Thanks

Should you still require assistance, please take note of the points below:
  • Please track this topic by either adding it to your favourites or clicking the Options button at the top of this thread and then Track this topic.
  • Please disable word-wrap before posting logs. This can be done by clicking Format and un-ticking the word-wrap feature in notepad.
  • The logs that you post should be copied and pasted directly into the reply. Only attach them if requested or if they do not fit into the post.
  • If you do not reply within 5 days, I will have to close your topic. Should you not be able to meet this, please notify me so that I will leave the topic open.
  • Please do not install, update, or run any programs for the duration of the fix.
  • If you do not understand the instructions I provide, please don't hesitate to ask. That's what I'm here for smile.gif
  • Please continue to reply to this topic until I give you the all clean. Just because there are no symptoms of infection doesn't mean that the computer is clean.
  • If you are running Vista, please run all the fixes as an administrator. This is done by right-clicking the program and clicking "Run as Administrator".

Please do the following so I can take a look at the current state of your system.

We need to run RSIT
  1. Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random and save it to your desktop.
  2. Double click on RSIT.exe.
  3. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  4. Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

NEXT:
(This step may produce a blank log. Let me know if that is the case)
We need to run a GMER scan
  1. Download GMER and save to your desktop. Note that the file will be randomly named to prevent active malware from stopping the download.
  2. Close all other open programs as there is a slight chance your computer will crash.
  3. Double click the GMER program. Your security programs may detect GMER's driver trying to load. Allow it.
  4. You may see a warning saying "GMER has detected rootkit activity". If so, select NO.
  5. Make sure all options are checked except:
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive, which is typically C:\
    • Show All (This is important, so do not miss it.)
Note: If GMER crashes or hangs, please retry running a scan. Only this time, in addition to the options mentioned above, uncheck Devices as well.
  6. When the scan is complete, click Save and save the log onto your desktop.

In your next reply, please include the following:
  • Log.txt
  • info.txt
  • gmer.log

Please do not send me PM's requesting for help. The forums are there for a reason : )
If I am helping you and do not respond to your thread for 48 hours, please send me a PM

Hello aommaster. Thank you so much for helping me. smile.gif I am only just beginning to realise how busy this site is!

I hope that I have managed to upload the RSIT information and the GMER scan correctly and that this is the right way to send it to you. If not, I am sure you will be able to let me know!

Kind Regards,

GrannyMy

Hi!

Glad to help out. Just for future reference, please copy and paste your logs directly into your reply (I've editted your post above), as they make it easier for me to read smile.gif

Could you please describe what problems you are having with your system?

Hello again.

Thank you for the advice about the logs.

The problems with the computer include:

[*]Running more and more slowly over a progressive period of time. (Months in fact.) Tried to free up disk space, de-frag etc to see if that would help. That's about the level of my knowledge.

[*]About four weeks ago the usual route to the internet 'disappeared.' Icon still there, but clicking produced no access. David used the laptop to gain access initially, so we knew that the internet was still working. Then we found we could access the internet through Internet Explorer on this computer, bypassing the original BT Broadband Icon. (On this computer Internet Explorer gives access to email accounts without the general password. The password route still exists on the laptop - laptop showing no discernible signs of the virus.)

[*]More an more frequently it seems that programmes fail to respond to commands (Not responding message.) Sometimes this has led to having to manually shut down the computer. Other times it has led to shutting down the computer despite the non responsive programme and working with the 'End programme now' or 'Wait for this programme to respond' Screen. I have to use the 'End now' choice.

[*]The scanner (USB attachment to this computer) operating files seem also to have disappeared now. The scanner is not recognised on this computer at all. - Have not yet tried to repair/re-install the software. I do not know how long this has been the case with the scanner - it is not used very often.

[*]Yesterday I was not able to open a blank Word Document completely. It opened as far as the first 'blue' screen - showed all the usual tabs (which were not operable) - but would not progress as far as opening a usable page for typing text into.

[*]Internet Explorer will stop working at times - though I do not know if this is related to the virus or just Internet Explorer itself.

I hope this is helpful.

Kind regards,

GrannyMy

Hello, GrannyMy.
From the description of your problems, it doesn't *appear* to be malware related. I think it's more of a hardware related issue, but I'd like to make sure.

I'll have you run a few things. The first two will give me information about what hardware you have installed and how they're behaving. The next one is an online scanner for virusses, and the scan may take a while to complete.
We need to run HardwareInfo
  1. Please download Aommaster's HardwareInfo to your desktop.
  2. Double click HardwareInfo
  3. Press the Run Scan button to start scanning.
  4. It shall produce a HardwareInfo.txt on your desktop.
  5. Please copy and paste the log in your next reply.

NEXT:

We need to run ConflictInfo
  1. Please download Aommaster's ConflictInfo to your desktop.
  2. Double click ConflictInfo
  3. Press the Run Scan button to start scanning.
  4. It shall produce a ConflictInfo.txt on your desktop.
  5. Please copy and paste the log in your next reply.

NEXT:

We need to run a Panda Active Scan
  1. Please go here to run Panda's ActiveScan
  2. Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  3. Click the big Scan Now button
  4. If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  5. It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  6. When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  7. When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the Export to button, Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

In your next reply, please include the following:
  • HardwareInfo.txt
  • ConflictInfo.txt
  • ActiveScan Report

We have detected that the avast! antivirus 4.8.1368 [VPS 100323-1] protection on your PC is enabled and up-to-date.

It is advisable to run a complete scan with ActiveScan 2.0 from time to time. This will minimize the chances of infection.

I really hope this is the info that you need! I know you are so busy, and I really do not want to waste your time if I have not got the right info for the Panda Scan unsure.gif

Hi!

No, it's not a problem at all. You're not wasting my time smile.gif

I don't believe your slow computer is malware-related. I think that you're lacking RAM on the computer you're using as well a slow processor.

You could try a few suggestions posted here to see if that would help.
