Hi,

I just recently started getting these yeakukz popups, and they are taking over my machine. I have no idea what to do, but from looking over this forum there seems to be a way to fix it. I'd appreciate any help you can give. Here is my Hijack This log:

Hi endrezults

Make sure you are set to show hidden files and folders:
A. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
B. Click the View tab.
C. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
D. Uncheck Hide extensions for known filetypes and Hide protected operating system files.
How to see hidden files in Windows

Run this registry script, which forces Windows to show so called "superhidden" files:
Copy the contents of the Quote box to Notepad, and save in a location of your choice as Unhide.reg (make sure to save as type: "All Files")

Doubleclick Unhide.reg, and answer 'yes' when prompted to add its contents to the Registry, then restart your computer.

This is only for XP or 2000 systems

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
"SearchSystemDirs"=dword:00000001
"SearchHidden"=dword:00000001
"IncludeSubFolders"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"Hidden"=dword:00000001
"ShowSuperHidden"=dword:00000001

REBOOT into SafeMode: Starting your computer in Safe mode, use the F8 method.

Search for and delete these two files:
n?x??n.exe
w?nlogon.exe

!!! winlogon.exe is a legit Windows file (Windows NT Logon Application). Don't delete this file.

If there are two files with the same name (winlogon.exe) in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\ folder, delete the non-Microsoft file. To check which one is legit right click each file and select Properties. The legit Windows file is Windows NT Logon Application (Description in General tab).

Reboot normally and post a new HJT log. Tell me if you had problems finding and deleting these two files.
Everyday is virus day. Do you know where your recovery CDs are ?
Did you create them yet ?

Ok, I did everything you said....but there were a couple problems

1. the files twaintec.dll, localNRD.dll, and conscorr.exe had duplicates and the when I tried to delete the duplicate I got this error:

'Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk,'

2. When I tried to run the scan from the Trendmicro site I got this error:

Sorry, the web page you're looking for was not found

www.trendmicro.com/housecall/install.asp

A report about this error has been sent to the webmaster. The page may have been moved or removed. If you got here by typing an address into your browser's address window, please check your spelling. To continue, try entering a keyword into the search form above or find your topic in the site map below.

I did everything else and here is the new HJT log:

1. Download the Hoster from here. Press Restore Original Hosts and press OK. Exit Program. This will restore the original Hosts file.

2. Please check Internet Explorer settings:
Open Internet Explorer -> Tools menu -> Internet Options ... -> Security tab
Click each Zone and press the Default Level button.

3. Search for these files:
twaintec.dll
localNRD.dll
conscorr.exe

take ownership of them, one at the time, and finally delete them.

You must be logged on to the computer with an account that has administrative credentials. If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, you must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an account that has Administrative rights to have access to the Security tab.

To take ownership of a file, follow these steps:
1. Right-click the file that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).
3. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
4. In the Name list, click Administrator, or click the Administrators group, and then click OK.

Delete the file.
If you get an error when deleting a file, right click on the file, select Properties, and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. if it is, uncheck it and try again.

4. Reboot

5. Run an online antivirus scan at:
http://housecall.antivirus.com/
Please make sure that AutoClean is checked.
Tell me if you can acces now TrendMicro site.

6. Post a new HJT log please.
