Can someone please help me. I had IE hijacked by something called xxxmasters, divxplayer and codec. If I click it off I get a download request to install splotchbar and if I click this off I get another error message purportedly from Windows. The final page is a porn site which I have to click off. I asked the same question at Hardcore.net and was told to download 'HijackThis' and follow the instructions. I did this but there was no mention of the examples given (sidebar, splotchbar etc) in the logfile. Next I was told to download Firefox browser which I did, and for a short while things worked better. Then I got a message from Zone alarm which asked me to allow Firefox to use the internet, which I clicked yes only to find that blasted program again. Evey visit to the internet is slowed down and pages take ages to load (if they do) yet I'm on 2meg Broadband. Firefox is not working very well at all either, sometimes not responding to the address bar or saying it cannot find the site etc (even my email at Tiscali).
I would be most grateful if somone can help.
ps If you have seen this anywhere else on the forum it's because I couldn't find the list of topic forums so I just posted anyway. I don't know where it went. I haven't been able to find my post.

Is this the other post you were talking about?
Malware

You should not try to fix anything with HJT, unless you have been properly trained in it's use.
HJT is a tool used to locate "problems".
The removal of these "problems" is sometimes much more involved, than just having HJT fix it.
The improper use of HJT could also cause damage to your system.

I suggest you post a HJT log for our Team to examine.
They'll take you through the fix, step by step.

Read How to post a HijackThis Log.
Please read, and follow, all directions carefully.

Then, run a log, and post it in the HJT forum, at this link. Do not, fix anything, yet.
A member, of the HJT Team, will help you out.
It may take a while to get a response, because the HJT Team are very busy. Please, be patient, these people are volunteers. They will help you out, as soon as possible.

NOTE:
Once you have made the post, please, DO NOT make another post in the HJT forum, until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The first thing they look for, when looking for logs to reply to, is 0 replies. If you make another post, there will be 1 reply. The team member, glancing over the replies, might assume someone is already helping you out, and will not respond. So, just make your post, and let it sit there, until a team member responds. This way you will be taken care of, in the most timely manner.

To tq1911
I realise that I may have dropped a clanger. You told me not to post more than once in the Hijack forum. I made the mistake of referring to you in the post. I didn't give any details of my problem, since I thought I was replying to you. I may have to wait forever as any visitor may think I'm being attended to. What should I do?

I will put a Mod comment in your HJT log to refer the HJT Tech that works your log
back to this thread for additional information about your problem.
