Malwarebytes not opening and false virus alerts

Hi, im experiencing difficulties with my computer and they include my malwarebytes not opening up(before it was working fine) and also every now and then i get fake virus scans by some thing called xp internet security and every once in a while when i try to open up firefox it blocks it.Im using windows xp and i am somewhat experienced with computers and i can follow instructions very well so if i can get some help it will be very well appreciated.

This is becoming more common.

What the infection does is modify the registry and change how .exe's open (prompting it to open the virus instead of the program.

What I have done is either used System Restore or
Download a registry fix for .exe files --- then System Restore or Scan.

thank you.that solved that problem.But how can i be sure that im completely clean from viruses?
