I don't know exactly whats going on but I'm going to give you as much information as I can. About 4 days ago I was working on my computer when I just thought about updating my malwarebytes. I went to update it and it wouldn't let me I got an error code 732 (12007), 0 so I tried going to the website and it would fail to load. I asked a girl friend of mine if she would go see if she could get on it and she couldn't either but she could update from the programs update menu. I got curious so I started to check and see about some other things that might need to be updated. I went to my Windows Updates and it wouldn't even search for updates and I couldn't get on the microsoft updates website it would say fail to load and I couldnt update anything that protects my computer or go to their websites either. I can get on microsoft webpages just not updates or download anything on the site so I had a friend download microsoft security essentials and the update and I ran that it found 3 things Trojan:Java/Selace.L, Trojan:Java/Salace.K and Exploit:Java/CVE-2008-5353.C I have them quarantined. Since then I tried to update windows and now I get it to search but when it goes to install its always the same update and I get error codes 80072EFE or 80072EFD. I hope that helps I did also update Java and checked to make sure it was the correct updated version running because when I did it before it wasnt the newest update. Since I have quarantined those trojans and exploit things I noticed that when I go to the microsoft updates page now it changes the url and does about:blank.

Hello CarolinaGirl82 smile.gif Welcome to the BC HijackThis Log and Analysis forum. I will be assisting you in cleaning up your system.

I ask that you refrain from running tools other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond the your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

Please keep in mind that we have a large backlog of users just like yourself waiting to be helped so try to be as timely as possible in your replies. Since we do this on a part-time voluntary basis we are limited on how many logs we can respond to and keep open due to time restraints. If you have to be away or can't answer for some other reason just let me know. Thank you for your understanding.

After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Instruction can be found HERE
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Note: Please post the log in the reply window and do not make it an attachment. Do this with all subsequent replies unless I ask otherwise.

Thanks,

thewall

Before we proceed any further did the files ComboFix removed make a difference in the problems you were experiencing?

That sounds good, let's run a scan now and see if we can find anything else.

I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan
  1. Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  2. Click the button.
  3. For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    1. Click on to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    2. Double click on the icon on your desktop.
  4. Check
  5. Click the button.
  6. Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  7. Check
  8. Push the Start button.
  9. ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  10. When the scan completes, push
  11. Push , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  12. Push the button.
  13. Push

Sounds good. Your Adobe Reader is a few versions behind. Let's go ahead and update it and if the computer is still running good we can finish up in the next post I make.

Please uninstall older version of Adobe Reader before installing the latest version

* Click Start
* Control Panel
* Double clicking on Add/Remove Programs
* Locate older version of Adobe Reader and click on Change/Remove to uninstall it
* Click HERE to download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
* Select your Windows version and click onDownload. If you are using Internet Explorer, you will receive prompts. Allow the installation to be ran and it will be installed automatically for you. If you are using other browsers, it will prompt you to save a file. Save this file to your desktop and run it to install the latest version of Adobe Reader.
* Close your Internet browser and open it again.

That's good, we can finish up now I believe.

I am not seeing a AntiVirus on your computer and that is a must today with the amount of infections out there. Of course having one doesn't guarantee you won't get infected but it is a huge help. Here are some that are free you can download. You only want to pick one since having more than one AV can cause problems itself.

AVG

Avira

Avast(Mouse over Free Software in the upper right corner)

Panda Cloud

Microsoft Security Essentials complete with installation videos

After completing that you can go ahead and clean off the tools we used:

Uninstall Combofix
  • Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard.
  • Now copy & paste the green bolded text in the run-box and click OK.

    ComboFix /Uninstall

<Notice the space between the "x" and "/".>

  • The following will implement some very important cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points.

We won't need DDS anymore so if it is still on your Desktop you can go ahead and delete it.

Below are some steps to follow in order to dramatically lower the chances of reinfection
You may have already implemented some of the steps below, however you should follow any steps that you have not already implemented
  1. Make sure you install all the security updates for Windows, Internet explorer & Microsoft Office
Whenever a security problem in its software is found, Microsoft will usually create a patch for it to that after the patch is installed, attackers can't use the vulnerability to install malicious software on your PC, so keeping up with these patches will help to prevent malicious software being installed on your PC
Go here to check for & install updates to Microsoft applications
Note: The update process uses activex, so you will need to use internet explorer for it, and allow the activex control that it wants to install
  2. Keep your non-Microsoft applications updated as well
Microsoft isn't the only company whose products can contain security vulnerabilities, to check for other vulnerable programs running on your PC that are in need of an update, you can use the Secunia Software Inspector - I suggest that you run it at least once a month
  3. Make Internet Explorer more secure
    Click Start > Run
    Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
    Click on the Security tab
Click Reset all zones to default level
Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  4. Install SpywareBlaster & make sure to update it regularly
SpywareBlaster sets killbits in the registry to prevent known malicious activex controls from installing themselves on your computer.
If you don't know what activex controls are, see here
You can download SpywareBlaster from here
  5. Finally, this is very important. It is absolutely essential to keep all of your security programs up to date

If you have any other questions or issues feel free to ask as I will be checking back on this topic.

Other than that if there is nothing else I can do for you then I wish you good luck in the future and thank you for using our forum. smile.gif

I installed microsoft security essentials after I ran those programs that produced the logs I sent you. Do you think i should delete it and reinstall just to be on the safe side or do you think its okay?
