I'm a computer rube so bear with me on this.

I have a home-built PC with Core I7 CPU 920 @ 2.67 GHz
2.66 GHz RAM
Windows XP sp 3

It has functioned beautifully until the last few days. Lately when I start it up and get the sign-on screen, after clicking sign -on it could sit forever until I hit the re-boot button and then it re-boots quickly. I don't know if this makes any sense, but its my interpretation of what's occurring. I asked our IT tech (built my PC) if I have a problem and he said it sounds like I've picked up some kind of malware and to run Combofix so...I ran successfully ran combofix and am wondering what do I do next.

I am trying to figure out what the post before yours is about...it is really confusing. It kind of makes me think that running this program was a big mistake.

Well other than that the author of ComboFix doesn't want the tool run unsupervised the rest is not neccessary to your needs. Post your log inthe forum I've linked to in the Prep Guide.
