I am running Windows XP Professional Media Center Edition on a Dell Dimension E510 with a 2.8 GHz proc. I installed AVG anit-virus free and got a Malware Defense warning message which I ignored and continued to install. I also installed PC Tools anti-virus free. Originally I was able to run scans with these, but now I can't. Every time I try to run a program from the desktop, I get an "Open With" window. Also the RUNDLL error message keeps popping up. The specific message says, "error loading C:\Windows\siagnmsp.dll." Also, about two weeks ago I ran a Virut scan in Safemode which was negative. I also ran a Malware Bytes anti-malware scan which detected and removed over 60 infections of various types including rootkits. After that the computer ran better but then the RUNDLL problem cropped up. The computer still has web access in Safemode, but when booted normally, any web browsing is being re-directed. I was able to log into this website while in Safemode. Right now I am posting this request for help from another computer. I followed the steps in the Malware removal preparation guide, but was not able to complete the Defogger step. I don't know if I have any CD emulation software running, but I don't think so. I will attach the DDS and GMER logs. I am at a total loss as to what to do, and I really have no idea what is attacking my computer. You are my last hope before I have to resort to the FINAL SOLUTION which is reformat and re-install which itself is complicated by the fact that I don't have the OS disks! Thanks for any help you can give!

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

Please include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Please refrain from running tools or applying updates other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

Even if you have already provided information about your PC, we need a new log to see what has changed since you originally posted your problem.
We need to create an OTL Report
  1. Please download OTL from one of the following mirrors:
  2. Save it to your desktop.
  3. Double click on the icon on your desktop.
  4. Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  5. In the custom scan box paste the following:
    CODE
    netsvcs
    msconfig
    safebootminimal
    safebootnetwork
    activex
    drivers32
    %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles
    /md5start
    eventlog.dll
    scecli.dll
    netlogon.dll
    cngaudit.dll
    sceclt.dll
    ntelogon.dll
    logevent.dll
    iaStor.sys
    nvstor.sys
    atapi.sys
    IdeChnDr.sys
    viasraid.sys
    AGP440.sys
    vaxscsi.sys
    nvatabus.sys
    viamraid.sys
    nvata.sys
    nvgts.sys
    iastorv.sys
    ViPrt.sys
    eNetHook.dll
    ahcix86.sys
    KR10N.sys
    nvstor32.sys
    ahcix86s.sys
    nvrd32.sys
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
  6. Push the button.
  7. Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:
    • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Extra.txt<--Will be minimized

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. I suggest you do this and select Immediate E-Mail notification and click on Proceed. This way you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.

regards myrti

Well,

I ran OTL, but during the scan, my desktop went to blank, light blue with nothing on it except the OTL scan window. When the scan got to the manual file scan of C:\i386\..., it said that the folder could not be found. When I clicked on the OK button and tried the scan again, I got the same result. So there it is. What do I do now?! sad.gif

Hi,

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Temporarily disable isable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
Usually this can be done via a right click on the System Tray icon, check this tutorial for disabling the most common security programs: Link

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

If you need help, see this link:

I will do this tonight. Assuming I can fix this machine w/o a re-install, what would be the best defense against future problems? Apparently the anti-malware software I have is not adequate. Thanks! mellow.gif

Save this as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

**Note**

When CF finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box--do not be alarmed. With the above script, ComboFix will capture files to submit for analysis.
  • Ensure you are connected to the internet and click OK on the message box.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Was the CF log in the last post helpful? I had AVG and PC Tools Anti-virus active. I was able to disable PC Tools but not AVG, even after 2+ runs of avgremover.exe. I got the warning about AVG still being active, but I ignored it. Will this be a problem in any further scans? If so, how can I disable AVG 9.0? Is it possible that rootkits could be preventing AVG's removal? I will wait for a reply to this post before proceeding with your last instructions, just in case! Thanks, myrti!

ComboFix ran fine. Even if you were unable to disable AVG. But ComboFix did not automatically detect all infections and I would like you to run the script I gave in my previous post to remove the files that ComboFix did not automatically detect.

regards myrti

is that a bird?  a plane? nooo it's the flying blueberry!

After running the script, I tried a simple web search for ComboFix and got the "Searchclick" redirection and fake infection alerts when I clicked on the tutorial link. Just wanted to let you know. huh.gif

Hi,

It seems the files did not get uploaded, could you please upload the files manually:
Please go to C:\qoobox\quarantine and locate the file [4]Submit_<date and time>.zip, where date and time are the date and time when you ran ComboFix.Afterwards please visit this site and follow the instructions for uploading the file.

Afterwards:
  • click on Start
  • select run
  • enter cmd and hit enter
  • a black window will open.
  • please enter the following text into that window and hit enter:
    ipconfig /flushdns
If you do not have the run-command in your Start menu:
Please right click on your taskbar, select Properties, select the Start Menu tab, click on Customize and tick the Display Run checkbox and click OK.

Let me know if that helps with the redirects.

regards myrti

I flushed the DNS resolver cache, but that did not help. When I tried to connect to bleepingcomputer tutorial/guide link, I was redirected to SearchClick7.com again and then a Total PC Defender message popped up telling me I needed thier anti-virus. When I closed that message, a fake scan started. I had to close the window. ohmy.gif
