I need to find a instant messenger that is compatible with YIM. I have not been the biggest fan of messenger services but now I need one that is YIM compatible. In the past I have installed YIM and had tons of issues with adware and soon after my cpu was infect with major malware and im not sure if this was related to it or not. So If anyone could point me in the direction of a yim compatible messenger and maybe give me a couple additional steps , like is there any settings I can change if Im using a messenger to increase safety etc. Any advice would be appreciated

Please don't misunderstand the point I'm about to make. It isn't the application (messenger) that is the culprit. It is how the application is used and what you allow to be shared within the application that is likely the root of the problem. Changing messengers and keeping the same habits will likely net you the same issues.

It's not the tool, but how you use it.

Ok so I get what your saying I do. I do try and surf safely though , I dont go on porn sites , I dont open adertisements and I'm careful about emails and attachments and forwarded emails. I even purchase a visa gift card at the store whenever I do a online purchase so im not using my actual banking card/credit cards. I update my anti-virus and firewall products as well as my adobe and java and windows update. I scan my cpu daily with one a/v every 3-4 days with mbam. So I do try to be careful and Im trying to educate myself more about computers and security by checking out books on viruses etc from the library and browsing this forum and geekstogo. I even applied for GeekU but havent been approved for classes yet. I was just hoping the experts could point me in the direction of a good messenger thats YIM compatible and maybe some settings for either IE and or firefox or maybe to check on firewalls to help be safer while on messengers.
