Hello,

It's better to print out the next instructions or save it in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.
It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!

Download AboutBuster.
Unzip AboutBuster in an own folder such as C:\AboutBuster.
Start AboutBuster.exe. Click OK, Update, Check For Update and download the updates if present.
Close aboutbuster now, because you may not run it yet, that's for later.
If You are getting an error when updating, please let me know first before you proceed with the next steps.

* Download and install CCleaner
Do not use it yet.

* Download this regfix: HSfix
Unzip it and place it on your desktop, don't use it yet!

* Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

*Please reboot your system into SAFE MODE.
To get into the Windows XP Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

*Start hijackthis and click scan and put a checkmark next to the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\nuoyk.dll/sp.html#87649
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\nuoyk.dll/sp.html#87649
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\nuoyk.dll/sp.html#87649

*Close all open windows except hijackthis and click 'Fix Checked'.

* Start Aboutbuster and let it scan. When the scan is done and you choose exit, it will automatically create a log in the same folder where aboutbuster is in.

* Doubleclick on HSfix you downloaded earlier before which is present on your desktop and when it asks you if you want to add the contents to the registry, click yes/ok

* Still in safe mode Run Ccleaner and click Run Cleaner (bottom right)

* Now open Ewido Security Suite
Click on scanner

* Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
* When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
* Save the report to your desktop

Close Ewido

*Go to start>Control Panel>Internet Options>tab programs> and click restore websettings.

* Reboot your PC back to normal.

* Perform an onlinescan with Bitdefender and/or Housecall (check here autodelete) and let it delete everything it is finding.

*Post a new hijackthis-log + log from ewido and log from aboutbuster which you'll find in the aboutbuster-folder

Hi, I'm afraid we have to give this another round, because the infection is still present.
I also want you to download and install Firefox for now and use the firefox browser as long as you are infected, because everytime you open Internet Explorer while infected, new files are getting downloaded again.

Please print next instructions out or save it in notepad, because you have some extra steps to perform.

First, we will make your hidden files and folders visible.
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

*Please reboot your system into SAFE MODE. !! Without networking support!!
To get into the Windows XP Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

*Start hijackthis and click scan and put a checkmark next to the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\nuoyk.dll/sp.html#87649
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\nuoyk.dll/sp.html#87649

O23 - Service: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper ( 11F#`I) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkck.exe

*Close all open windows except hijackthis and click 'Fix Checked'.

* Search for and delete next files manually:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkck.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ntds.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ntqw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\addwn.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\netkl.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\adduq.dll
C:\WINDOWS\sysic.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\apiht32.dll

* Go to start >run and type: services.msc and click OK
Scroll down in that list until you find the service Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper
(please make sure you choose the one with Helper in it.. because there's also a legit service called Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator and Remote Procedure Call (RPC), without the word Helper in it. That is a good one, so please don't select that one. )
Doubleclick the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper . In the window that will appear, click on "Stop" (if not greyed out) and change the Startup Type to disabled.
Click apply and OK and close all open windows.

Close Ewido

* Start Aboutbuster and let it scan. Let it scan another time until nothing is found anymore.

*Go to start>Control Panel>Internet Options>tab programs> and click restore websettings.

* Reboot your PC back to normal.

*Post a new hijackthis-log + log from ewido.

Hello, we are making ssome progress, but are not finished yet.

Are you sure you perform this in safe mode without networking support?

I think you also missed this very important part:

And also forgot to delete the files manually.
If you don't perform this in safe mode, you won't be able to delete the files manually.

So please try it again.

In safe mode, check and fix next entries in hijackthis:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: Class - {4A6D173C-FEB5-A78F-B935-68286B007E44} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\winnb32.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msxr32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\msxr32.exe
O23 - Service: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper ( 11F#`I) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkck.exe

Then delete next files manually (rightclick on them and choose delete):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkck.exe
C:\WINDOWS\msxr32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winnb32.dll

Again, run ewido and aboutbuster.
It won't hurt to run Adaware and Spybot s&d also in safe mode. Make sure you update it before.

Boot back to normal mode and post a new hijackthislog together with the ewido log.

Hello,

That's a hijackthislog made in safe mode.

Check and fix next entry in it:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\rrelu.dll/sp.html#37049

Reboot and post a log made in normal mode. :thumbsup:

It sounded like you wanted me to run this through the normal mode, so I did and there wasn't the item in the log. Here is the log from the normal mode:

I checked through the Add/Remove Programs and the programs that were the problem are no longer in the listings. I ended up running Spybot S&D and Adware after everything in Safe mode last time, which seemed to help more because it found a few things to get rid of. Everything seems to be working great now! Thanks!

Hello,

I see a clean log here.

There are still some things you need to check...

* Download: Hoster
Unzip hoster to an own folder.
Start Hoster.exe.
It could be possible that hoster will tell you that your Hosts file doesn't exist and if you want to create one. Click yes/ok.
If you don't get that prompt/question, click 'Restore Original Hosts' and click OK.

It could be possible that this hijacker deleted some files, so check if the following are still present:

Control.exe: Is in your C:\WINDOWS\system32. Download here when missing.

Shell.dll: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 Download here when missing

SDHelper.dll:
If you are using Spybot Search & Destroy, this hijacker can also delete SDHelper.dll.
Download SDHelper.dll.
Place the file in the Spybot Search & Destroy-folder. Most probably, this ist C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy

This hijacker is also responsible for changing the ActiveX security settings to allow all.
To fix this...Open Internet Explorer > internet options > security > internet.
Press default level > OK.
Press custom level
In the ActiveX part:
Set "Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls" to prompt.
Se 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'disable'.

Let me know afterwards how things are running. :thumbsup:

Good to hear that. :thumbsup:

Just Perform a full scan with an updated Adaware SE and/or Spybot S&D to get rid of the leftovers.
If you don't have those programs yet, you can find the downloadlocations in my sig.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

If you are having XP SP2, read here how to configure Security Features for Internet Explorer:
