i have two older computers a dell dimension l800r p3 800mhz 256mb ram and a dell optaplex celeron tualian 389mb ram 1200mhz core gx50 it says they support 512mb ram 256x2 wht i want to know wht would happen if i used 512mb x2 would it read 1gb or read the sticks as 256mb sticks

tryed it with a stick of 512mb my buddy let me use to test it and it reads it as 256mb so i got 256 sticks for them 10 bucks each for 3 SD-ram 133mhz ram and a p3 for the celeron comp a 1.6ghz with 512k l2 that thing is faster then a first gen p4 i had laying around
