I have followed the instructions for cleaning out spyware and viruses on this friend's computer, but two symptom remain:
1) Each time I change the IE Home Page from www.SearchItQuick.com, it returns.
2) TVMedia and soap.exe are replaced in the HKLM and HKCU Run elements of the registry upon reboot.

I have booted to safe mode and done a complete scan - nothing critical. I have also done an NAV scan - nothing.

Thanks in advance for helping!

Here is the HJT log:

Welcome to BC forums.

Hijack This needs to be in a permenant folder. Click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder. Put your HijackThis.exe there, and double click to run it.

Scan with Hijack This and put a checkmark next to the following entries:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.searchitquick.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...rch/search.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...://my.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.gophersearch.com/
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.gophersearch.com/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http://HAL:8080
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe

the 017 entries show registered to Social Policy Research Associates. As long as you know who they are, you can leave these entries. Otherwise the 017 entries should be fixed.

The following entry is questionable. You can read more about it here
O23 - Service: PLSRemote Service (PLSRemoteSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\PLSRemote.exe (file missing)

If you do not want this program, let me know, and we can disable and remove it.

Navigate to the following folder and delete the entire folder in bold.
C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe

***This entry, shows that msconfig is on, and indicates you are using selective/diagnostic startup.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto

If you have anything disabled in MSconfig, please re-enable all, before you run HJT.
Start>Run>type 'msconfig' (no quotes) and select "Normal" for start mode..
Then Reboot and post a new HijackThis log.

Great!
That worked, thanks so much for the time.
Also had to activate "Turn off System Restore", which I had not done.
Now, all those entries that kept returning in HJT are gone!
I appreciate your help.

Be sure to re-enable your system restore. Glad we were able to help.

It might be a good idea for you to submit another log with msconfig set to normal to be sure you don't have anything else lurking.
