Two days ago I started getting error messages, ad found I had 'Antivirus Soft' malware on my computer.
I went through the suggested fix on the bleepingcomputer.com page, but it didn't work.
So I ran HijackThis, and on the suggestion of another page, removed three files which started with '04 - HCKLU' and ended with 'ftva.exe'
Maybe that was a little hasty - I was pretty frustrated at that point, and should've checked to make sure I was erasing the right files.
Since then, the malware seems to be gone, but now my computer freezes.
I'll boot up, open Firefox, and generally within 3-10 minutes I won't be able to do anything. Cntl-Alt-Dlt doesn't do anything. I have to hard-reboot my computer to use it.
It freezes if I use Windows Media Player as well, and seems to happen more if I'm trying to play audio or video.
I've also tried logging in under a different user in Windows; same problem.
I'll also note that I've run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and also disk cleanup and registry mechanic.
The whole system's running better then it has in months - except for the frequent shutdowns. I'm feeling a little sheepish about this.
I've attached the current HijackThis log.
Any help would be enormously appreciated.
