I was just recently infected via a downloader trojan and various others and have been unable to resolve my problem on my own and trying to avoid wiping the hard drive in it's entirety.

Symptoms include:
  • Unable to access Safe Mode
  • No more Administrator Privileges - I was able to unlock the ability to edit my registry on my own.
  • Several Run DLL errors
  • Fake software pop-ups
  • Massive Computer Slow Down - Also attributed by my somewhat overheating CPU
  • Browser Hijacking
As well as various others I cannot remember at the top of my head. I was only able to monitor this much before the system crashed on me after retrieving the necessary logs.

I apologize. The subscription wasn't sending me any e-mails for some reason (I'll go see what's up with that) and I got caught up with school work. It was a good thing that I checked the topic anyway...

While I didn't do any fixes, I did try to see if I can boot the computer just a few days ago after the desktop crashed and was caught in a fight between a black screen and my patience.

The problem computer doesn't seem to start up past the BIOS screen and remains blank.

Right now, we're going to replace the CPU and Motherboard to make sure the computer won't melt itself since I have had been getting problems with my CPU overheating. Then we'll use a small hard drive and hook up the infected hard drive as a slave to see what's wrong and try to back up any files I can before trying to treat the drive.

I'll be back when we do get the computer up and running again to see if I can save the drive without wiping it and provide new logs if the infections don't attack the expendable drive.

Should I go make a new topic when that happens?

It sounds like a long project so it may be better to close this off and post a new topic when you're ready.

If you agree I will close it. smile.gif
