Greetings !

I could use some help with a virus I can't get rid of.

I'm runing XP Pro on a Dell Precision M2300 laptop.

When I open Thunderbird, a message appears stating:

Confirm
?
There was an error downloading the following message:
From: "Manager Joan Jeffries" <customer@dhl.com>
Subject: DHL Express Services. Please get your parcel NR.1057
This message may contain a virus or there is not enough disk space. Skip this message?

AVG immediately pops up with a warning:

Resident Shield Alert
Accessed file is infected
C: \ Docs Settings\XX\Local\Settings\Temp\newmsg

It will heal the "newmsg" file but when Thunderbird starts to download emails
into the inbox, the warning appears again.

I've run scans with AVG, Ad-aware & Spybot-Search&Destroy to no avail.

Any help will be appreciated. Much thanks !

Hello
Apparently others have experienced the same issue as well, because
the error message you describe is mentioned on the following mozillazine websites:

Connection errors - POP3
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Connection_errors_-_POP3
(Scroll WAY down, nearly to the bottom, right above the Network Errors category.)

There was an error downloading following message!?

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=656295

The Connection errors - POP3 site:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Connection_errors_-_POP3
states,
* Thunderbird failure. Perhaps your Inbox file is read-only.

The "may contain a virus" part of the message is probably misleading.

Hope this helps :flowers:

Thanks !

That was a huge help. Everything is back to normal.

I wasn't as concerned about the original warning as I was with the
subsequent AVG warning. I've been concerned about the new viruses
that seem to work around the anti-virus software so well.

Anyway, thanks again !
