Hello,

My name is Albert and I am working on a Compaq Presario C700 laptop running Windows Vista; I've just cleared more obvious signs of a Websearch infection but my computer won't allow any antispyware software to update - except Spywareblaster by Javacool.

Spybot - won't instal
Superantispyware - installed but can't update
Malwarebytes - intalled but can't update

Hijackthis! installed but can't read hosts file and can't save a log. I checked the hosts file and it seems fine.

The error message is always the same - make sure your firewall is not blocking things - it isn't.

internet web searches are diverted by gewebsearch.com

System Data
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit

Thank you,

Albert

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run RKill:
http://www.technibble.com/rkill-repair-tool-of-the-week/
Rkill is a small, freeware and portable tool designed to terminate active malware processes allowing you to use other removal tools. Rkill is made by a Microsoft MVP “Lawrence Abrams” and is available in 4 different extensions. An .EXE, .COM, .SCR and a .PIF file.
The reason why Rkill comes in 4 different versions is because some malware will block .EXE files in an attempt to prevent you from running other malware removal tools, so this gets around that problem
