The computer I'm trying to run DDS.SCR on, used to have AutoCAD LT on it. "scr" extensions are AutoCAD script extensions. I've uninstalled AutoCAD LT but the dds.scr icon still displays as an AutoCAD Script. When I try to run it, it just opens up in Notepad. Any suggestions?

I am having this exact same problem for the exact same reason (AutoCAD installed on computer). I, however, have no idea how to edit the registry or whatever else I must do to fix it.
I will be posting a help request as soon as I can because malware has hijacked my google searches, but I want to prepare with your guide and currently can not.

Thank you kind people for offering this help, I'm pretty sure malware/trojan/virus/etc. writers are demon spawn. I look forward to following your advice.

Hi,

please download this file: xp_scr_fix.

Unpack the file onto your desktop and double-click it. You will be asked if you wish to merge the file with you registry, say yes.

You should then be able to run DDS.scr.

I am having a similar issue as the people who have posted previously. However it is not the DDS.scr I am trying to run. It is a another software and it uses the ".scr" file to start up the program. The issue I am concerned about is that I still have Auto-cad on my system and need it to remain a functional program.

So my question is: If I run the fix that has been suggested previously will it cause any issue with my copy of autocad running? If it will what is another way I can fix this problem?

Thank you in advanced.

I am running Windows 7 32 bit.

Thanks again

Hi,

yes that will break the auto-cad association. You could try to rename the one .scr you want to execute to .com and see if that works.
