Perhaps I've not been a good girl. Perhaps good luck just can't find its way to me. Whatever the case may be, this has been a day of hell.
I booted the computer and connected to the internet. It connected but I got a box right away saying "Internet Explorer has caused an error in <unknown> and will now close". That was the beginning of my day.
I brought up Netscape (which I loathe!) and came directly and immediately to BC. I had to log in which I did. But everything I would click on would somehow log me out. So I tried to create a new account but that did the same thing. So, I assumed BC doesn't work with Netscape. I couldn't get anything to work or come up for me, including PM's, Chat, and I even tried to email but it wouldn't go through either. So, I went to Start, Search, Files and Folders, and typed in Internet Explorer. It basically vanished. I don't know if that is a hijack or not but I couldn't find anything like it on the net where others had their Internet Explorer vanish. I felt totally alone and helpless. So, next, I go to Microsoft.com to get IE back, or so I thought. I was given errors instantly upon trying to install. I guess you can't get IE back once it vanishes, I don't know.
Then I pull up msconfig and oh Lordy, what a mess! There were funky things in there! I unchecked them and rebooted. Three times! Some wouldn't go away. Then I pulled up Program Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete) and a few funky things were there too. I went to another forum and posted out of desperation. Been a long time and still no reply - which is the reason I am a very proud and happy member of BC. But somehow I was able to post there and not here.
I ran Adaware which found 106 items. 106 items!!!!!
I ran Spybot and it found one.
I ran Spysweeper and it found 10 with 41 traces.
One of the things Adaware found was a Trojan Downloader.
I didn't bother with HJT since I couldn't post here and where I could post wouldn't get back to me before Easter!
So, how am I here now? Two words. System Restore! THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT!!! I went into safe mode (cleaned cache and did some fixes through Sony) and did the system restore back to Monday. It rebooted and looks great again.
It worked, yippee!!!
BTW - the one folder of Internet Explorer I did find, I clicked on it. It said "last modified at 5:32am" on today's date. I knew EXACTLY what happened. My 17-yr old decided to fart around on the internet instead of sleeping. He downloaded some Asian languages (Korean, Japanese, Chinese) from Microsoft Global IME or whatever it was. And from the looks of what Adaware and the others found, I'm guessing he was looking up things he shouldn't have. Oh boy is someone in trouble later today!!!!

A friend once told me. "Your computer will only love you and nobody else. Because once others get on your computer, your problems will begin". That may or may not be true for some. But I think it holds water to some degree.

Thanks for listening. I missed you all!

Let us know how things turn out, regarding the 17 yr old. Don't let me read about this in the paper or on Google News. I've taken the initiative of making a screen spot of this thread, to use against you in a court of law. Reads pretty much like a confession and an attempt to do harm... :D

Just kidding...

 Ah TexasAngel67...
Isn't that so true. I have 4 users on my 'puter and there is always something to clean up or fix. I'm glad BC is here to help out in that respect LOL. I've had to learn a lot to keep this computer functioning.
I am so glad you made it back. Isn't system restore a wonderful thing? I can't count the times I've had to use it. Thank-goodness for it. I've never heard of someone's IE just disappearing ever. Some would say GOOD GREAT LMAO... but we need it for our Winders updates. That's all mine is used for now. I've never used Netscape altho it is on my system someplace, I've seen it during scans. I think it must have come with my puter, because it had AOL installed on it when I got it. I am using Firefox now and also Mozilla 1.7. I just got the Firefox yesterday. So far I like it but haven't really checked it out completely yet. Anyhow, anything is better than IE. :flowers: lol

LOL Fuelm@n... haven't I seen you someplace before?? Like CoU maybe? Haha Hi there!

Screenshots, hmmm. Those just might hold up in a court of law. I should edit my thread and rethink my words.
The water is getting hotter and I find myself wading in it.

Just kidding everyone.
Thanks for the smile, Fuelm@n!

Ahh Pandy
What can I say? lol
First, I've never heard of anyone losing IE completely either. And yes, I love system restore too!
I would love to try Mozilla or Opera or Firefox - I've downloaded them before but they don't work in Pogo and I can't live without that! lol
I think IE and Netscape both come with all computers really. Unless you build it yourself.
I think it's fairly safe to assume though that Netscape and BC are like oil and water though, lol.

Y'all still think I need to post a HJT log, just in case?
I think system restore worked beautifully; msconfig and Ctrl-Alt-Delete are both normal now - and nothing looks amiss.

Opera does work in Pogo-I have it and used it over there.

Awesome quote there Koan.

Now what happened to the men who talked like that? A woman's dream is to hear such words. Ah! To be in love once again, to be admired, adored, cherished, appreciated.....

Oh sorry, I was daydreaming. What was the topic again?

Thanks Koan...enjoyed it immensely!

i very strongly urge you to post that log...a few months ago, i came in here with a note, and a log..that got pinned...seemed i had the rare privilege of being the first to post a log with a trojan that SHUT DOWN SYSTEM RESTORE. it actually set system restore to the exact date and time that it took over! i erased most of my favorites, and replaced them with their own...mostly casinos, but lots of porno thrown in...for posterity, perhaps? talk about feeling molested, abused, and helpless...

however, grinler, et al, as usual, came to my rescue on the backs of their trusty steeds, and saved my puter from any further indignities. hope these crimes haven't been committed upon your puter!
