I have been experiencing a couple of problems within IE and need help to resolve. First problem is random redirects of Google search results that do not go to the intended target. The other issue is that occasionally while in Internet Explorer, the system begins to spawn an endless number of new windows - I must usually do a hard reboot as the only way to stop this.

DDS.txt log is posted below, and Attach.txt is attached. I have made two attempts to run GMER, albeit unsucessful - first resulted in a blue screen shortly after starting & then immediately rebooting, the second attempt locked up my computer very shortly after starting (I waited 3 hrs) and I had to do a hard restart.

I appreciate any help!!

Thanks,
Dave

Hello DaveOdie

Welcome to BleepingComputer smile.gif
==========================
  • Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.
  • Under Custom scan's and fixes section paste in the below in bold

    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.*
    /md5start
    eventlog.dll
    scecli.dll
    netlogon.dll
    cngaudit.dll
    sceclt.dll
    ntelogon.dll
    logevent.dll
    iaStor.sys
    nvstor.sys
    atapi.sys
    IdeChnDr.sys
    viasraid.sys
    AGP440.sys
    vaxscsi.sys
    nvatabus.sys
    viamraid.sys
    nvata.sys
    nvgts.sys
    iastorv.sys
    ViPrt.sys
    eNetHook.dll
    ahcix86.sys
    KR10N.sys
    nvstor32.sys
    ahcix86s.sys
    nvrd32.sys
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    %systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
    %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles

  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
    • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
    • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.

I downloaded TDSSkiller. My PC (oddly) did not recognize the .zip file type, so I could not right click and extract the file. I double-clicked on the zip file, and the computer spawned a stream of IE windows opening one after another. The only recourse I had was to reboot. After the reboot and restarted Internet Explorer, I was notified that IE was not my default browser (a change).

I was able to download and unzip TDSSkiller on another computer. It ran fine and log for it is below. Combofix log is also below.

Yes, still having the issues. I mentioned in my post yesterday afternoon re: the TDSSKiller file unzipping which initiated the windows. I'll check again and post a confirmation but I presume it's unchanged.

I also just tried a couple new Google searches. when I click on any link to a search result, I get redirected to http://searchclick1.com and/or to various advertiser results on www.thetelevisioncatalog.com

Confirmed the issue still exists with multiple IE windows opening. I just repeated yesterday's experience with TSDDKiller.zip, since my pc now associates .zip's with IE .

It will do that if the association's are not correct.
For that do the following:

Please open up Notepad and copy all of the items in the code box below.
Change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as fixthis.reg on your Desktop.

no issues running these changes. The .zip association is now restored properly and working, though the icons for any .zips are generic and not for zips.

Ok try this for the zip icons:
http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/incorrec...-type-in-vista/

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop.
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file, then on Start and allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, chose the Complete Scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look and see if you can click the following icon next to the files found:
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
  • This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer to allow files that were in use to be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply.
NOTE: During the scan, a pop-up window will open asking for full version purchase. Simply close the window by clicking on X in upper right corner.
Please do not pm for help, post it in the forums instead.

Well, the zip icon fix did not work, even following the reboot that was suggested after a cache refresh. I also tried to rebuild the icon cache as described in the related link: http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/how-to-r...-windows-vista/ but without luck there either.

The Dr.Web CureIt scans completed after a mere 26 hours. Log below. Two items identified and resolved.

So the good news, though, is that the Google search redirects appear to have been resolved after some limited testing!

Ok let's see a new OTL log.
  • Double click on OTL to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
    • When the scan completes, it will open one notepad window. OTL.Txt a This is saved in the same location as OTL.
    • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of this file and post it with your next reply.

Please do not pm for help, post it in the forums instead.
