Note I have no problems.....just want to stop programmes from loading at startup, usually in msconfig all I need is about 3 or 4.

StartupLite sounds like the one for you.

Please download StartupLite. to your desktop and run it. It will explain any optional auto-start programs on your system, and offer the option to stop these programs from starting at startup. This will result in fewer programs running when you boot your system, and should improve performance.

See how you go with that. thumbup2.gif

I ran that and disabled or removed about 4 items from the short list that was shown.
However I still have a lot of junk showing in the Startup tab in the System Configuration Utility which I would like to get rid of. Below (hopefully) is two screen shots of whats listed.

A lot of those look legitimate and need to start. Let's get HijackThis to log a list for me to take a look at.

Run HijackThis.
Click on Open the Misc Tools Section.
Then press Generate StartupList log, making sure that both boxes next to it are checked.
Select Yes at the prompt.
A Notepad file will open, and will automatically be saved in your HijackThis folder.
Paste this log in your next reply.
More information with a screenshot, can be found here.

Hi m0le...thanks for that. My real problem now is how best to remove items that I don't want to run at startup. I understand that using the System Config Utility to do this.....is not the way to go. Some programmes in the c/prog list may have an option to prevent them from running at startup but others like,

C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehSched.exe

others like............... igfxpers = C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exe

some of which I can identify in the Database and if not required I would like to remove them.

I thought that maybe HJT or Autoruns would make the task of doing this easier than going into the Registry. I know its dangerous territory but I am very careful and would not take risks if at all in doubt.

To sum up: I want to be able to monitor and edit programmes that run at startup......so that I am in control of whats running.

msconfig sometimes causes problems but that's the usual way.

You could run Startup Control Panel by Mike Lin. This looks very much like Vista's control panel and should give you what you want.

Hi m0le that looks like the job for me, just one thing, do I need to download both Startup Control Panel 2.8 and Standalone EXE Version 34kb, or if one will do which one would you go for. Thanks.

If your Java's up to date then the standalone should do the job. Either is okay though.

Let me know how it performs. smile.gif
