Whenever I try to go to www.poi-factory.com I am redirected to www.draw3d.com. This is the only redirect I am experiencing. I have run Malwarebytes, McAFee, and Spybot with no success. I'm at the end of my rope on this one. Thank you so much for helping with this. George

Here is my log file.

Hi, and let me say up front, thank you very much for your help. I am tracking this topic.

Additional info. This thing has infected both my desktop and laptop (I sync with). The Hijack This file I sent was from my laptop but I'd rather concentrate on my desktop where all my important files are. All my data is backed up on an external hard drive.

I have done Disk Clean and browser history delete a few times in the past. The problem goes away then returns. I attempt to goto www.poi-factory.com and it starts with a screen that says "Error 404 cannot find server" but it does not look like a legitimate screen. Whatever I do from that point it sends me to Mark Kistlers Imagination Station @ www.draw3d.com.

I did contact Mark Kistlers site and asked about the redirect, they never answered. From this point on I will not do anything to attempt a fix and will follow your instructions. Thanks again, George.

Well, first of all the fact that you have one site redirecting to another site and neither site has malicious content means that we are not talking about malware here.

The source code doesn't appear to have a redirect on it and I didn't have any problems with it. The fact that clearing your history removes the redirect until you return means we are talking about a possible hack on the site which your PC is being exploited by. These kinds of exploits are rare but if you have any out of date, major applications you should get them sorted.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here or here.
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Okay, here's a leftfield idea for you. You have a browser helper object which may be corrupted and be causing this strange set-up.

Click "start" on the taskbar and then click on the "Control Panel" icon.
Please doubleclick the "Add or Remove Programs" icon
A list of programs installed will be "populated" this may take a bit of time.
If they exist, uninstall the following by clicking on the following entries and selecting "remove":

BAE

Additional instructions can be found here if needed.

You can always reinstall this again later but let's see if the problem persists.

Checked both computers, No BAE on either.

BAE is showing on the HJT log here:

QUOTE
O2 - BHO: CBrowserHelperObject Object - {CA6319C0-31B7-401E-A518-A07C3DB8F777} - C:\Program Files\BAE\BAE.dll

You also have another one here, Ask. The file is missing for this too so we should remove it. If you don't wish to then let me know before you run the next part as I would need to edit the script below.

It may be that what's left of either of these programs which is causing the problem.

If you're happy to say goodbye to both then continue on to OTM.

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
  • For version with the Installer:
Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
  • For the zipped version:
Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

We need to execute an OTM script
  1. Please download OTM by OldTimer and save it to your desktop.
  2. Double click the icon on your desktop.
  3. Paste the following code under the area. Do not include the word "Code".
    CODE
    :Reg
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\browser helper objects\{CA6319C0-31B7-401E-A518-A07C3DB8F777}]
    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{CA6319C0-31B7-401E-A518-A07C3DB8F777}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\browser helper objects\{9CB65201-89C4-402c-BA80-02D8C59F9B1D}]
    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9CB65201-89C4-402c-BA80-02D8C59F9B1D}]
    :Files
    C:\Program Files\BAE
    C:\Program Files\AskTBar
    :Commands
    [EmptyTemp]
    [Reboot]
  4. Push the large button.
  5. OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
  6. Copy/Paste the contents under the line here in your next reply.
  7. If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.
Post the OTM log.

Thanks smile.gif

ERUNT stated it was not for use with Vista, so I manually backed up both my registries (desktop and laptop) to a flashdrive, and created a restore point on point. I downloaded and ran OTM, results pasted below:

Desktop:
All processes killed

Okay, let's try and blast these regenerating programs out of your PC.

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop making sure you rename it comfix.exe
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. (Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive.)
  • Double click on Combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
