Daughters friend has a dell laptop which had a expired copy of Mcafee anti virus.
They caught a virus and removed the Mcafee and installed Norton 360.
They scanned the computer and removed a virus (which they forgot to write down).

Now it seem that the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

is X:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,
I can change this to
C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe

But it reverts to X:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,

The Computer needs a ctrl/alt/del logon which when the user name and password is entered it logsoff striaght away.

Its Windows Xp Pro SP2
I cannot log safe mode.
I can boot into Hiren and OTLPE.iso and I have even done a OTL scan which I can post a log.

Help

This must be either a really new virus and its baffled you guys or I dunno.

I think ill use a boot disk and transfer all the personal stuff onto a caddy and reformat the thing.
