About two weeks ago I picked up the "your computer is infected" virus. I was able to ... what i thought anyway ... to get rid of it. Now most of my internet searches started being redirected to random sites.

I have scanned with AVG, Spybot S&D, and Malwarebytes. I cleaned several things off but the redirected searches continue to happen. I don't know what else to do.

I read the preparation guide and I can't get the GMER scan to complete or get the report. I get a big blue screen that says "widows has encountered an error and must shut down." It says a lot more but my computer restarts before I can read it.

What do I do now? Please help!

Here is the DDS log:

Hello! smile.gif
My name is Sam and I will be helping you.

In order to see what's going on with your computer I'll ask for you to post various logs from the tools that we will use to resolve your issue. Please also share with me any information about how your computer is reacting and behaving each step of the way as we work through this process.

We need to create an OTL Report
  • Please download OTL from here
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon on your desktop.
  • Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in

    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    eventlog.dll
    scecli.dll
    netlogon.dll
    cngaudit.dll
    sceclt.dll
    ntelogon.dll
    logevent.dll
    iaStor.sys
    nvstor.sys
    atapi.sys
    IdeChnDr.sys
    viasraid.sys
    AGP440.sys
    vaxscsi.sys
    nvatabus.sys
    viamraid.sys
    nvata.sys
    nvgts.sys
    iastorv.sys
    ViPrt.sys
    eNetHook.dll
    ahcix86.sys
    KR10N.sys
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
    CREATERESTOREPOINT

  • Click the "Run Scan" button.
  • The scan should take just a few minutes.
  • Please copy and paste both logs back here in your next reply.

Sam . . . Thanks so much for helping!

Tonight when I turned on the computer to do the OTL report . . . my computer began going through a cycle . . . . it would look as if it were booting up . . . then I would get a blue screen saying that windows has encountered an error and then a black screen would come up asking to boot in safe mode, boot as normal, or boot from last know workable configuration. I can get it to boot up to windows with any option.

No matter what I do . . . the computer just shuts down and reboots. I don't know where to go from here.

There is an option to restore . . . basically to reload windows with or without a backup.

Not sure where to go from here.

Thanks . . . Derek

If you opt for the restore option I'm pretty sure you will lose everything on your hard drive now. There is another option if you have, or can get access to a Windows XP setup disc. A repair installation will reinstall Windows over top of the current installation and you won't lose anything.

http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

After the repair installation you should be able to boot up normally again, however any malware infection will still be present. If you are able to do the repair installation please follow the first set of steps I posted and run OTL.
