I have come into a 2000 IBM Thinkpad, You know the one with the pointing stick. :D

Well it kept BSOD'ing. So i took out the hard drive. and if you shake it gently, It clicks.

Im new to laptops, Will any old 2.5 HD go in, Or do i need a special type of HD

Thanks, Schwinny

any will work but I would replace it with one of the same speed so it doesn't get too hot. If it is old you probably don't have SATA, take a look at the connection. Posted Image

Yeah, That was my ?

its the kind of HD where you drop it in, and the pins are in the case.

Would any modern HD work or do i need to find a non-sata one?

It looks good but for that price you can get a 160gb. Look at J&R Music and Computer World, B & H Photo & Video, and Buy.com

As of now they all have the same brand in 160gb for $56-$76 (J&R is the cheapest and has free shipping!)

To the OP:

You need to provided specific info on the system model. There are zillions of Thinkpads that have been sold over the years...take a visit to the IBM/Lenovo website and enter "thinkpad" and you'll see what I mean.

Once that is done, someone can point you to the proper hard drive.

What is the complete model number?
It will be something like this

Thinkpad R50e
Type 1842 - HRU

It's on a sticker, on the bottom of the laptop
