I have a Vista home basic and use firefox, although this virus seems to be targeting internet explorer, luckily. So once random internet explorer ads started popping up, I tried spybot search and destroy, which detected nothing. SuperAntiSpyware said it removed the trojan, but alas it did not. Then I ran rkill twice, the first time with no other windows open, and the second time because after I ran it another popup showed up. After that I did a complete MBAM scan which took 2+ hours, and said that it removed the threat. This morning, no luck, they're back. Everything else seems to be operating normally.

Anyway, thanks for any help.

Update: as expected, my web pages are now being redirected to "security alerts"; I'm not sure which program it is exactly, except that "win protection" keeps trying to install itself.
