Hello I have a hitachi hts542516k9sa00 hard drive and I cannot seem to get it to be recognized by the computer. I use a sata to usb adapter to connect it and I am sure it is getting enough power.

Do you mean...that you cannot see it in My Computer...or that you cannot see it in the BIOS...or that you cannot see it in Disk Management?

Is it formatted? My Computer can only see drives which are formatted in FAT or NTFS.

How about a look in Disk Management?

Start/Run...type diskmgmt.msc and hit Enter.

Then I'd have to guess that your drive is dead...or the converter apparatus is not working properly...or both.

All drives connected to the system, regardless of manner, should be able to be viewed in Disk Management. It is the only place where hard drives should always be seen on a system...well, along with Device Manager.

hts542516k9sa00 is a 2.5 sata.

If your external usb enclosure has a cable with one usb connector, try one with two.

I have several 2.5 enclosures and some of them that used to work with a single usb type cable, now require a two usb type connector.

seems to be called a power booster cable
