I have an HP Pavilion dv6 1245 Ex laptop with Vista 64 bit (6.0.6002 SP2 build 6002).

I had to re-install Vista and am trying to re-install my Photosmart C3180 All In One.

When "HP Photosmart Full Feature Vista 64.exe (latest version)" driver installation software runs, it gets as far as the "Device detected" dialog box that says it is "waiting for device setup to finish". After several minutes a box saying "device setup has failed to complete" comes up.

I have changed USB cables and also connected the printer to another computer that it works fine with. I have uninstalled and re-installed the software. I am at a loss as what to do next.

Any help out there?

Had same problem with my C3180 on Vista 32 bit. Tried several times.
Even did chat with online tech. All wasted effort until someone advised
me to do L3 Uninstall. Had to look that up and see what to do. That
helped. BUT the one thing that that I guarantee worked was removing
HP completely from the registry. Google how to do that, it was actually
quite easy. I then rebooted and redownloaded the C3180 software
and all was well. When you get to where you can choose the 'ALL
recommended" or "Select What you want (or whatever it says", choose
to select what you want and do NOT select photo essentials or the
shop at HP. You can get those later if you want them. AND there are
better programs than Photo Essentials ~ including Picasa, btw.
