Normally, I try to fix these problems on my own, but I am at my wits end.
A little over a week ago, I began to notice a problem with Firefox. At first, it wasn't that huge of a deal as it was just running really slowly and I use my computer a lot for school work since I attend online. But then it started to get worse.
New advertisement tabs would randomly start to open on their own, most commonly this one:
media.defaultimg.com/images/defaults41/approved/404.html
but other ones as well.
Then Google stopped working properly. I would do a search for class and when I click on the link for on of the search results a totally unrelated page would open (example: search for environmental issues and the page that would open was a local car dealership).
I tried running IE and did not get the same problem.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox about 5 times now and it doesn't help.
I installed SeaMonkey on Thursday and have been running that for my main browser.
I posted to the Mozilla Support Forum.
They said to run (in this order)
Malwarebytes
SUPERAntiSpyware
Ad-Aware
Spybot
Windows Defender
Super AntiSpyware and Ad-Aware found a couple of tracking cookies that I got rid of.
None of the others found anything. McAfee has not found anything.

I am at my wits end! What is going on and how do I get rid of it?!?

This is happening to me too.
I have firefox and IE and both behave the same way.
Spy Sweeper and PC Tools Anti-virus found nothing.
I tried going to some system file folders like C:/Windows/system32
and didn't come up with anything out of the ordinary.
Nothing was added in Add/Remove Programs.
I saw that one of the pop-ups had a domain of defaultimg.com

Any help on how to get rid of this annoyance would be deeply
appreciated.

Hello and welcome. you both will need to start new topics in the Malware Removal forum to fix this.

You will need to run HJT/DDS.
Please follow this guide. Preparation Guide For Use Before Using Hijackthis. Then go here HijackThis Logs and Virus/Trojan/Spyware/Malware Removal ,click New Topic, give it a relevant Title and post that complete log.

Let me know if it went OK.
