Posted 31 January 2010 - 04:02 AM

About three days ago, my laptop got infected with something. Avira started popping up messages about infected.webpage.gen and EXP/Pidief.GI [exploit. I tried some stuff, and when I use MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Avira the results are clean. However, there is still clearly a problem. Two specific websites that I used to visit semi-frequently get redirected. I know these sites themselves are fine since I've visited them on my iTouch. They get redirected to various places such as Yahoo Hot Jobs, etc. Also, any antivirus/spyware/malware sites I can not open, it says the page cannot be found. This is the issue I had before I tried anything. Other than that I can browse the internet just fine. Also, can not update MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, etc. Although Avira appears to work fine. Other than this, the computer appears to be in perfectly working order. I probably did some things without seeking proper help first so I don't know if I did a incomplete job of fixing it, absolutely nothing worth anything, or what, and that was probably stupid, but I need help. Please.

Edit: It seems the Group Policy has been messed with.
Edit2: Looked at a few things with VirusTotal. So far: PEV.exe gets "(Suspicious) - DNA Scan" and "Suspicious File" from Cat-QuickHeal and eSafe respectively.
zip.exe gets "Virus in password protected archive" by eSafe
nircmd.exe "Application.Win32.Nircmd" "NirCmd" from Comodo and Sophos
SWXCACLS.exe "Application.NirCmd" from PCTools
SWSC.exe, SWREG.exe "Trojan.Agent.ATV" Cat-QuickHeal
Edit3: I should also mention that at the supposed time of infection, msa.exe was created, and almost as soon as I realized I was infected I deleted msa.exe, and it has not come back.

Edit. Again: Sorry, I was looking more closely at what happened at what I believe was the time of infection, the same time msa.exe was created. And this is what I found so far: ntuser.pol, everything inside the whole Windows/System32/GroupPolicy folder, 0000450e.tmp, Px1.exe, Px0.exe, msa.exe

The .exe files I completely deleted myself maybe 2-3 hours after the creation time. I'm unsure about the name Px0, it may have been Px.exe, or not even an exe file. The 0000450e.tmp was disinfected/quarantined by ComboFix, which I admittedly ran a few times already before I made the logs.

Also, an event log was constructed at the time Microsoft-Windows-RemoteAssistance%4Admin and Microsoft-Windows-RemoteAssistance%4Operational. I then unchecked Remote Assistance in System Protection/Properties.

I'd greatly appreciate help as soon as possible. Thanks.

Other files are attached. Here is my DDS log:

I managed to get to malwarebytes.org by going to the website through a proxy website, found a link to the malwarebytes manual updater, opened it on the proxy website and got new definitions. Ran malwarebytes and found 3 registry keys for Trojan.DNSChanger, quarantined, deleted. Cleaned everything with CCleaner, etc , disabled then renabled System restore made new restore point, uninstalled combofix, etc. Updated malwarebytes, SuperAntispyware and did another scan. All clean. Now everything appears to working and all clean so yeah.

Case closed. thumbup.gif
