Thanks to the Internet Security 2010 mess, I had to start all over from scratch.

I was able to reinstall Windows using instructions I found linked to from here.

My only problem was that at first I didn't realize I had to reinstall drivers. It took me nearly all day, but I finally figured it out, and am connected to the Internet once again.

Writing this here in case there's anyone else who doesn't realize they need to reinstall drivers too.

Input appreciated...the necessity to install drivers is taken for granted by experienced users who had to install Windows 9x or who installed XP after buying it.

It's still a relatively recent development that boxmakers sell systems which don't contain any instructions or means for reinstalling XP from a Microsoft CD...the users who have acquired systems since then would have to read their uwer/owner manuals to get any idea of the value/procedures for installing drivers.

Glad you solved it, happy computing .
