I recently had a virus and spyware download onto my computer. I got rid of it but then my task manager was disabled. I managed to fix that but now I noticed that my Display Properties are disabled. It is only in the Desktop tab that the options to change the wallpaper are greyed out. I have tried several things to get it to work. I have done the regedit but when I follow the path there is no item with the word "wallpaper". I used the instructions here and the ones that are posted on the Microsoft website but I can find any files matching what they say like these:

NoDispCPL
NoDispBackgroundPage
NoDispScrSavPage
NoDispSettingsPage

They are nowhere to be found when I follow that path. Please help! I used the instructions from the link below....

Right click on the desktop and select Properties > Desktop tab > Customize Desktop button > Web tab. If there is an entry there delete it and then click OK. See if that helps.

When I follow that path I dont even see a web tab? It just shows information on placing icons on the desktop.

Try the fix at Kelly's Korner.

Restore All Display Tabs - #285 on the right.

Right click on it and save the .reg file to your desktop. Then, double click on the file icon (on your desktop) to merge it into your registry. You may need to reboot your computer for the changes to take affect.

With any fix like this you should create a new restore point and backup the registry first. For backing up the registry I like to use ERUNT.

Disabled Display Properties may be a sign of an infection. I suggest, you run some scans.

I ran several scans and got rid of the spyware I have. I tried #142 on Kelly's Korner. But the display properties just under desktop wont work. I can change the color of th background and screensaver and all that but I cant select a photo to put as my wallpaper.
