I run AVG protection on my laptop. I kept getting an error which popped up saying "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close". This message is shortly followed by "This shutdown initiated by NT Authority System. DCOM Server Process Launcher has terminated uexpectedly and needs to close". Then my computer restarts itself in 30 seconds. It seems totally random. I have also noticed that I get a lot of redirects to bizarre websites from my home page. I have automatic updates from AVG and Microsoft. I have scanned with both AVG and Microsoft and removed three trojans, but the problem still occurs.

Hi bighawg
Welcome to Bleeping Computer.
I'm maranatha and I will be handling your log to help you get cleaned up. I am a student here at BC so all my posts will be checked by one of our experts, so there may be a slight delay between posts.

Please give me some time to look it over and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Please post back to this message so I know that you still need help with this issue.

Thanks
maranatha

Hi

Gamevance: Is a Adware site and collects info from your computer. I would suggest removing it, but it is up to you.
Let me know what you are going to do.
From their EULA
“In exchange for offering you free games, we collect anonymous usage information from your computer that we and our partners may use to select and display pop-up and other kinds of ads to you and to perform and publish research about how people use the Internet.”
http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_144428.htm

Please also do this.

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and re-enable all active protection when done.
-- If you encounter any problems, try running GMER in Safe Mode.

Please post the GMER log and let me know what you are going to do with Gamevance.

Thanks
maranatha

I had a hard time disabling AVG, so I hope it didn't cause a problem. Here is the log. I want to remove the other program I had a relative visiting a few weeks ago and I'm guessing she downloaded it without realizing the consequences.

Hi bighawg
Please do the following.

Download ComboFix from Here

Before saving it rename it to Mobofcix.exe then download it to your Desktop.

Please run it this way.

It's best to disable realtime protection applications as they sometimes interfere with the tool.
Check this link for any applicable programs you may have.
  • Close all open programs and windows
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • Vista users right click Combofix.exe and select Run As Administrator.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post the Combofix log
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

If you are prompted to install the Recovery Console, Please do so.

Thanks
maranatha

When I tried to boot my computer, my hard drive is completely dead. I can't boot or access anything. I have had to seek a higher level of help. I appreciate your assistance but you can remove this help session.
