I'm running Windows XP SP2.

When I turn on the computer it loads the desktop, but begins a prompt with "setting up personalized settings for c:/windows/system32/spy_net_rat/spy_net."

My symantic antivirus says there are 24 problems, but the computer will shutdown if I try to use Symantec or Malwarebytes. I can't seem to use any other programs - I tried system restore and task manager, but it'll shutdown.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Well, I fixed it by hitting Ctrl+Alt+Dlt repeatedly upon startup before Windows came on, which brought up task manager before spy_net_rat could get going fully. I just had to end task all the spy_net_rat's that kept popping up for a few minutes, then I ran rkill.exe and finally Malwarebytes, which nabbed it completely after restart. Then I ran a Symantec scan which pulled up a couple trackers.

Good as new.
