recently i installed Fedora Core 4 in my system, along with winxp. there is no problem with network detection. i can access the net.

i am in a LAN and i can access other PC's (running windows XP) using there IP address (like we have 10.100.*.* ip address scheming.

i wanna use the PC name's (like MYPC etc) to access these PC's. i heard that i have to enable NetBios but didn't know how?

/etc/services contain all the netbios services (around 6 i think).

heard that /etc/samba/smb.conf will help in DNS resolving. i would like to know where i should configure to access other systems using \\PCNAME rather that \\10.100.*.* .

regarding my LAN : WORKGROUP: DA-IICT
all pc's start with 10.100.*.* ip addressing.
have a proxy: hostelproxy.da-iict.org:3128

hope the above is enough to tell me the configuration!! (i am not sure)
