Hello,

I had some income tax and other sensitive info in excel and I wanted to remove it from my PC so I opened the document deleted all of the information leaving a blank document and then saved the blank document. Then I deleted the document. I have been told that this will write over the information and remove it. Is that correct?

What about sometime when things get saved under files that have numbers. I go to "look in:" and where I would have "My Documnets" or "My Pictures" for example it will give me a letter/number combo like OKL4856. what type of file is that?

I appreciate your wisdom...people like me should have a greater knowledge BEFORE we start working on a PC!!!!
thanks!

You are correct, the file and it's contents will be over-written, in time
For most people, this is acceptable
The average person will not be able to retrieve your files
For the paranoid, there are file shredder programs that add an extra level of security:

A file with a series of numbers are usually an update of some sort

Can it read my documents that are over written

In theory yes. In reality, no
A hacker wants to get in and out as quick as possible

That's just a pic. My REAL dogs are pugs
