This is my 1st time in a forum and I'm looking forward to some help!!!
I have an HP Compaq Presario SR1610NX
Sempron 1.8GHz
1G memory
Very basic setup.

I am trying to install a fresh copy of Windows XP Home. I have a Windows XP Service Pack 3 CD and can successfully format and install the operating system.
From the second the operating system starts up after installation, the processor immediately begins to run between 95-100%. I haven't even installed any drivers yet.
I've tried running in Safe Mode and the processor is still running between 95-100%.

What can cause this.
I've heard there are issues with Service Pack 3 and AMD processors but shouldn't the service pack be disabled in Safe mode?

Thanks

I do not believe that SP3 is in any way disabled in safe mode.

Thanks for the advice guys. I was able to get an XP SP2 installation cd from a friend and that worked. So, I guess it's a Service Pack 3 issue. I'll try to install the patch as suggested and then updated. Hope it works!!!!!

Thanks everyone
