AVG Installation Issues

Hello All - I am sure this has been done before but I would like to get this comptuer up and running with virus protection.
Please help!

First Computer info - Microsoft windows XP Home Edition 2002 sp3 HP Pavilion Celeron CPU 1200MHz 1.2Ghz with 128 MB ram.

Trying to install AVG and it just shuts off. No error, no nothing. Just shuts off.

Where can I start?

I would really love help with this as I am frustrated with old computer
