can't open /ect in terminal

Hi all,
I'm having issues with ubuntu 9.10 karmic in that I can't get the /ect directory to open up in terminal, it keeps telling me that the directory doesn't exist but it does. I can cd to other directories in the root but not /ect, any thoughts?

Are you sure that you are spelling it correctly? It's spelled etc, not ect.
A penguin broke my windows with a half-eaten apple!
