HELP...POPUPS JUST WON'T STOP

I have a Compaq Presario and am running Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. I have pop ups that just won't quit! I can be on mozilla and a Internet Explorer will pop up. I had Malware Bytes on my computer and for some reason my icon is gone and it won't allow me to reinstall. I can download it again but it gets to a point and shuts off. I have defragmented and did a cleanup. PLEASE HELP! I'm desperate and this thing is about to be in the middle of the road outside. It keeps freezing up as I'm trying to log into my school also!

We can try a couple of ways.
First try running Rkill then reinstalling or running MBAM if it reappears from normal mode.

RKill....

Please download Rkill by Grinler and save it to your desktop.Link 2

  • Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
  • If using Vista, right-click on it and Run As Administrator.
  • A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
  • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
  • If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
  • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.
You will need to run the application again if rebooting the computer occurs along the way as the malware programs will start again.


You can try downloading and installing from Safe Mode with networkking.
In Task Manager do you see any odd Processes? Something perhaops all numbers or using alot of the CPU.

I downloaded the program and ran as told. The DOS box came up as expected...I tried to download and reinstall my MBAM again and this is the error message I'm getting

SETUP
unable to execute file:
c:\ProgramFiles\Malwarebytes'Anti-Malware\mbam.exe

CreateProcess failed; code 2.

The system can not find the file specified.

PLEASE HELP...I'm not completely computer illiterate but this fixing of malware, spyware and such I have no idea how to do it!

Hello,
The error indicates that mbam.exe was deleted by the malware.
So,download a randomized renamed mbam.exe version from here L@@K.
Put the renamed mbam.exe in the Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder on the infected PC and launch the renamed file.
Malwarebytes should run now.

Note:In some cases:
It will be needed to rename the random named mbam.exe to explorer.exe (this for example when you are also dealing with "Security Tool" or another fake scanner.
Once the renamed mbam.exe runs,
First step >> Click the update tab in order to download the latest updates.

Then run a quick scan and let Malwarebytes quarantine what it found.
Reboot afterwards.
Post the scan log.

No matter that outcome we need to run these also.
Next run ATF and SAS: If you cannot access Safe Mode,run in normal ,but let me know.

Note: On Vista, "Windows Temp" is disabled. To empty "Windows Temp" ATF-Cleaner must be "Run as an Administrator".

From your regular user account..
Download Attribune's ATF Cleaner and then SUPERAntiSpyware , Free Home Version. Save both to desktop ..
DO NOT run yet.
Open SUPER from icon and install and Update it
Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
Close browsers before scanning.
Scan for tracking cookies.
Terminate memory threats before quarantining
.
Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program. DO NOT run yet.

Now reboot into Safe Mode: How to enter safe mode(XP)
Using the F8 Method
Restart your computer.
When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode
.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox or Opera browser click that browser at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program
.

NOW Scan with SUPER
Open from the desktop icon or the program Files list
On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
Perform a Complete scan. After scan,Verify they are all checked.
Click OK on the summary screen to quarantine all found items.
If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally.

To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log.
A text file will open in your default text editor.
Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
Click Close to exit the program.

I tried to download the Malwarebyte's and I get an Error code: 707(3,0)

Ok, do this. But regardless run the SAS it may also remove the blocker.

Please go to
C:/Windows/System32 look for the taskmgr.exe file.

Copy the file to My Documents folder.
Rename it to explorer.exe
Now that you have Task Manager open. Look for suspicious processes.. (all numbers or something consuming most of the CPU).
Highlight such and click End Process

This should allow you to now run MBAm.

Thank you...I'm working on running the SAS in Safe Mode right now...I checked out the task manager but am not exactly sure what I was looking for. There was like 12 occurrences of iexplorer.exe running and I closed those and a couple other things that I'm not exactly sure what they did. I attempted to run MBAM again to no avail. I pray this works!

I did the SAS in Safemode and When I got back on I can't find my log file. I was however successful in running MBAM. Here is the log file from there. I'm about to go to safe mode and run the scan again.

Hello,did you do a reboot after the MBAm scan it was needed for removal of malwares.
With the SAS log...
Sometimes this happens and it comes back after a shut down and reboot. Also it sometimes shows up in the Admin or other user account.

Hiya, popups gone?

Rerun MBAM (MalwareBytes) like this:

Open MBAM in normal mode and click Update tab, select Check for Updates,when done
click Scanner tab,select FULL scan and scan (normal mode).
After scan click Remove Selected, Post new scan log and Reboot into normal mode.
