I have a computer in my home recording studio, that is just not cutting it anymore.

What I Have:
Pentium 4HT 3.0ghz Processor
2gb DDR-400 RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8500gt
250gb WD Caviar

I will probably wind up re-using the hard drive, and the graphics card as they arent really neccessary to upgrade. I want to do a Quad Core build (unless someone can convince me that going dual core could potentially be better).

I am going to go with something like a Q6600, or a Q8300. Is there a core 2 duo, that will out-preform either of these chips?

Also, in a recording studio we use what is called an Audio Interface. Basically, it takes signal from 8 different audio devices and brings them into the computer. In order for them to be brought to the computer as 8 seperate audio signals (which they need to be), you have to connect them via 2 firewire cords. Therefore, the motherboard I get for this build is going to have to have 2 firewire(if not more) ports on the back.

My other question is, could I get a board with 1 firewire port, and use a hub to get 2 or more inputs OR even a pci (or pci e) firewire card... WITHOUT losing audio latency?

I have been looking for a board with even one firewire port, and can not find one. If anyone can answer any of those questions..I would really appretiate it.

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around
