I recently sent my computer into a shop to have hardware issues resolved. I ended up having to purchase a new hard drive altogether. Now that I have my computer back my speakers no longer work. Ive tried the front and back audio jacks, with my speakers and headphones alike. The computer will simply will not recognize them. I cannot emphasis how frustrating this machine of mine has become. I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Try using the XP Sound Troubleshooter...and check the volume control for XP to ensure that nothing important is set to be muted.

Check Device Manager and see if there is any audio controller in the Sound, Video, Games Controller section. If so, uninstall the drivers and then reinstall same.

What model Compaq?

The device shows up as Multimedia Audio Controller and it has a yellow exclamation point next to it. I tried to update the drivers automatically but they couldn't be found. My tower has the compaq engraving on it, the sticker and the system properties screen only shows that it has a AMD Athlon 64 Processor. So Im unsure about the model I have
