Hey BC!

Couple of weeks back, I had, in a state of carelessness attached a cousin's memory card which in turn infected my harddrive. My antivirus recognized this as a malware and took appropriate steps for its deletion. But as in most of cases, it never was completely eradicated (which I found out later on). Fast forwarding today, I attached that harddrive to another PC, which in turn got infected. I did not know this had happened until I used a flash drive to copy data from the present PC to my laptop, which I use @ work. The trojan not only infected my laptop, but somehow and I don't have any clue, disrupted my LAN settings. I cannot access the net either through cable or wireless from the laptop. Needless to say, I am in a fix.

I use Kaspersky AntiVirus, MBAM and SpyBot Search & Destroy for my basic cleanup. I tried searching for it by booting from Ubuntu, but did not find any file by that name. I have the DDS logs from my PC and can post it here, if the mods want me to. The trojan or whatever it is, is kmj.exe, Google does not have any permanent disinfection solutions. I am sure, UNITE does. : )

Keeping my fingers crossed thumbup.gif

edit: Looks like I have to post the DDS log file.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE
regards,
schrauber

Thank you for your reply schrauber. I ran DDS.scr as you mentioned, after disabling my Internet and A/V and it generates a notepad file of weird characters instead of a proper report like HJT. Is this how it works or am I missing anything? If that is how it works, I will upload the notepad file.

I do not know if the malware has been removed completely and would like you to resolve the issue : )

Thanks for the reply though.

I have been trying since yesterday to post the logfile but there seems to be a problem. Either the file is too big to be posted or attached (cause my browser hangs up when pasting the contents) or it does not work at times.
