Hi,

Question, Have a inspiron 6400 that the panel is very very dark but boots up. Was told it needs an inverter or backlighting both cost a lot. Went to BestBuy and they said with HDMI can connect to a netbook and use the Dell with the netbook acting as the monitor. I know the new netbook has a hdmi port, not sure what the Inspiron 6400 has. I know ther are 4 USB ports and a external monitor port.

Is the guy at BestBuy right and would the $30 cable work. From what port on the Dell to what port on the netbook.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Are you trying to connect the video cable from your Inspiron 6400 PC to the netbook??? That's not possible.

You need to take the cable from the 'video out port' of any PC and connect it to an external MONITOR. In this case, if both the PC and MONITOR(or TV) support HDMI, an HDMI cable can be used.

INSPIRON 6400 (OUT) - - - > (IN) TV/MONITOR
NETBOOK (OUT) - - - > (IN) TV/MONITOR

So you either need to get the Dell's display repaired or get yourself a new external monitor.

No, simply because both have VIDEO OUTPUT (that gives out a video signal) ports.

To transmit video, one device needs to send the video signal and the other has to receive this signal.
