Hello,

Appreciate any guidance to the following:

"RESTART" function does not work (ie. when you have the option to logoff, shutdown or restart). I've tried different scenarios; manual "restart" fails, any type of updates or installs or programs that require/request a restart fail, etc.

When a restart is initiated (manual/automatic) the system shutsdown, screens blanks out & then ... nothing. The system is still on but the restart never occurs. No hardrive activity, monitor goes into powersave mode. I wind up having to hold the power button to shut everything down. Other than this issue the system works fine. Boots up normally, powers down normally on manual shutdown. All applications work
normally ... all good no error messages or BSD.

The BIOS is Award version F4.

When I looked at the BIOS menu then exited, the same "restart issue"
occurred. The system did not boot.

help ...

I've tried the following without success:

- SHUTDOWN -r -t 01 (starts shutdown process, screen blanks, then nothing)
- SFC /SCANNOW (doesn't find anything)
- CHKDSK (no errors)
- virus scan picks up nothing.

PC details (home built):

Windows XP SP2 Home Edition
RAM: 4G
Processor: Intel E6850 @ 3.2G
Video: Nvidia 8800GT 512M
Hardrive: 320G Western Digital
Power Supply: OCZ Stealth 500Watts
Motherboard: Gigibyte GA-EP35-DS3L

Appreciate any help/advise.

Hi .

Does the system shutdown properly if the Off option is selected?

See Powerdown Issues at http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.php for possible answers.

Louis,

Hi!

Yes, there is no problem when using the "off" option. It is only the "restart" option that is the issue. Appreciate
the link you provided but reviewing it, it does not appear to address my issue.
