Had this pc for a few years and the sound just went out.
I'm running vista w/ realtek hd audio
The only time I get sound is when the Realtek HD Audio Manager does a speaker test
everything else games, videos, starting up the computer nothing no sound.
Any help well be much appreciated.

I am having a similiar problem with my computer, only it started about a week ago. The diagnostics test will produce sound, but I can't get it any other time. I've checked all connections and have the latest updates for my media player (Realtek). I have a Gateway SX2800 with an Intel C2Q processor. It has 4GB of RAM and a 640GB hard drive, It is running Vista (Windows 7 on order). I have IE 8. I use Kaspersky 9.0 Internet Suite and Fix-It Utilities 9 in conjuction with daily updates and weekly maintence.

I only have had this machine since October. This is the first Gateway I have bought, previously using Compaq. Between the Windows Vista and the Gateway system, I'm frustrated beyond belief. I hope W7 is better.

This is your model's sound driver for Vista:
http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers...&type=10096

They do not list a separate one for Windows 7

Thanks for the driver hint, but unfortunately it didn't work. The list of computers doesn't include mine. Is it possible that WIndows newest service pack could be incompatible with my system? I have allowed all of the WIndows update to download. Until I bought this machine in Oct I'd never used Vista, and am still trying to figure out my way through the program. Gateway didn't provide any manual nor did they provide any type of guide book for Vista. I'm lost in a dark forest, walking in circles here.

Their support site seems to be woefully lacking
