My antivirus program, AVG free, keeps finding IRC/BackDoor.SdBot.HKM. I tell ACG to heal the file and sometimes that works. Other times I have to put it in the vault. AVG then tells me that I have to restart. When I do so, all the processes in the system tray hang, and I have to tell Windows to end them. Then when logging off Windows hangs and I have to shut down using the power button. After AVG found SdBot last time, I disabled system restore (which I had to do from the registry -- the system resoter window accessed through the control panel wouldn't let me) rebooted in safe mode ran a full system scan, ran ad-aware and spy bot, and then HJT. Thanks for your help!

Letís get to work.

Please download Lspfix.
  • Extract(unzip) it to its own folder.
  • Disconnect from the internet.
  • Close all browser windows.
  • Run LSPFix.
  • Click the "I know what I'm doing" button.
  • In the left hand pane, highlight all instances of nvappfilter.dll (and nothing else).
  • Move them to the "Remove" pane by clicking the >> button
  • Click Finish
  • Reboot to complete the process.
If needed, read the tutorial on Using LSP-Fix to remove LSP Spyware & Hijackers

Using Windows Explorer, search for and delete this file.

c:\windows\system32\nvappfilter.dll

Please post a new HiJackThis log and we will work on other fixes.

To help prevent further infection, please download and install SpywareBlaster SpywareBlaster will help to:
  • prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.
  • block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
  • restrict the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.
Please go to the following web address and download Cleanup HERE CleanUp! is a powerful and easy-to-use application that removes temporary files created while surfing the web, empties the Recycle Bin, deletes files from your temporary folders and more. Do not run it yet.
*IMPORTANT NOTE*
CleanUp deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders; it does not make backups.
If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp

If you did not set this as your homepage, please use HiJackThis to fix it.

Please run HijackThis and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries (make sure not to miss any):

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\help\wwhelp\wwhimpl\common\html\blank.htm

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix Checked" to have HijackThis fix the entries you checked.

Letís run Cleanup to ensure no malware is hiding in temporary folders and for general computer cleanup to free space on your computer.

Please run HijackThis again and post a fresh log, just so I can make sure that all the malware was deleted according to plan
