If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Hi. I am glad to know that you will help me. It started off w/ the right click menu--it was invisible/missing until the cursor crossed it. Then the cursor started acting wild, all over the place. I updated my touchpad driver but that didn't help. Finally I had to disable tap to click. Then a number of other things began to happen, and I am not sure in what order, but they included odd characters typing themselves into text fields (mainly "8k8hm8k8hm" over and over. It would also automatically open window after window of IE so that the computer locked up. I eventually had to use Malware Bytes to delete the IExplore altogether it got so bad. Then at some point the computer started to randomly lock itself, and when it did so, when i tried to get back in, it said "access denied". Now my computer has a fingerprint reader, and that got me back into windows after it was locked 1 time, then the fingerprint application was hijacked too. I disabled user accounts passwords so that if it locked automatically, I could automatically get back in, but after I had shut the computer down and booted it up for the second time after doing that, it managed to deny me access again, even though I was no longer using passwords. In addition, this mystery account appeared that said something like "unidentified user" or just "user" and their was a blank text field for both the user name and password to be typed in on that account. When I finally got back into windows using a safe mode, in the user accounts section of the control panel, the extra account appeared as "asp.net" I had let my virus control run out, so I immediately installed the free McAfee that comes w/ my Comcast account, as well as Malwarebytes, and downloaded a rootkit scanner, as well as process guard shortly after that. These scans did not uncover a rootkit, but did find some adware and a couple of trojans that I was able to remove. I also installed hijack this & did delete a couple of "unknown" lines using that, but they come back every reboot. Also, process guard was able to help a lot preventing changes, and it was a very active software--it blocked something every 30 seconds or so. Sometimes more often. But right now, while things are not as crazy as they were, they are still haywire. I can get into windows & online only in 'directory services restore mode,' which looks like a version of the safemode. Process guard is running, but I cannot pull up the menu page at all, so I cannot make changes to it, or uninstall it. After I am online a while, my computer begins typing "8k8" again so that I cannot enter text of my own (I am surprised I am able to type this much right now, for example), and once that starts, it begins to change the webpage I am viewing back and forward, and at some point will start cascading my windows in 3D so that they are minimized sort of sideways on my desktop. It also pulls up Windows explorer. Oh, and my touchpad was so totally eventually hijacked, that it is now operating left-handed, and even when I go into the control panel to try and change it back, those boxes that you check will not allow me to alter them. Now I have tried making a new user account just to see what if any difference there is w/ regard to those settings on the touchpad. I can make a new account, and its settings are default, but whatever virus I have does not seem to like that I made a new account, and locks me out of it eventually. I tried system restore, but it didn't help and may have made things worse, b/c on those occasions, I would get the auto-reboot, once or twice got a blue screen, and had to keep trying restore points just to get back to some stability. I did create one restore point, however, that I can rely on as a stable point. I know what I am describing sounds confusing, but whatever is screwing around in my computer behaves very unpredictably. There are a few things that I can tell aggravate it, however, such as adding or changing settings in user accounts, and I have gotten into the habit of switching off my wireless while I type in text fields on webpages (such as now) until I get ready to submit a post, b/c the longer my computer has uninterrupted access to the internet, the quicker it starts to act up, and I would also add that after it starts acting up w/ the 8k8 and moving back forth through the pages I've opened in my browser and so forth, I have to reboot to be able to type again or view pages w/ being disturbed, and it seems to be better if I shut the computer down for at *least* a few minutes, b/c if I just automatically restart the computer, it seems to pick up w/ the crazy behavior not far from where it had just left off. Ok, I ran the program you sent me the links to download. You need to know tha8kh I could not disable process guard but I did disable my other a/v and script scanning software. Process guard did not seem to keep it from running it supposedly is supposed to protect some files from even being read. If I need to disable Process Guard, I am going to need help getting into it, as I cannot pul up the menu screen for it, and it is always running, and you cannot delete it while it is running. Here is the log:

Hello, floridaheather and again
Welcome to the Bleeping Computer Forums. My name is Thomas (Tom is fine), and I will be helping you fixing your problems.

If you do not make a reply in 5 days, we will have to close your topic.

You may want to keep the link to this topic in your favourites. Alternatively, you can click the button at the top bar of this topic and Track this Topic. The topics you are tracking can be found here.

Please take note of some guidelines for this fix:
  • Refrain from making any changes to your computer including installing/uninstall programs, deleting files, modifying the registry, and running scanners or tools. Doing so could cause changes to the directions I have to give you and prolong the time required. Further more, you should not be taking any advice relating to this computer from any other source throughout the course of this fix.
  • If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
  • Even if things appear to be better, it might not mean we are finished. Please continue to follow my instructions and reply back until I give you the "all clean". We do not want to clean you part-way, only to have the system re-infect itself.
  • Please reply using the button in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Do not start a new topic. The logs that you post should be pasted directly into the reply. Only attach them if requested or if they do not fit into the post.
  • Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just post back here so that we know you're still here.
  • Please set your system to show all files.
Click Start, open My Computer, select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    Click Yes to confirm.

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and re-enable all active protection when done.
-- If you encounter any problems, try running GMER in Safe Mode.
regards,
schrauber

Hi Thomas, I am having some trouble setting my system to show all files. I click start and open "Computer" (I do not have a "My Computer"). But I do not have a "Tools" menu or any menu, so of course there is no "Folder Options". All it shows is the icon for my C drive. When I click right over my C drive and open properties there is a tools tab but it is just a backup, defrag, and scan disk utilities--still no Folder Options. I googled this problem and see that there are other ways to do this, or restore the options such as through regedit.exe

Please advise how to proceed. I will check back very shortly. I will be around the computer all day the rest of today and most of tomorrow, so maybe I will hear from you soon, too.

Thanks so much! Heather

Hi again. huh.gif

Well a couple of things. I downloaded and saved GMER to my desktop. I adjusted my computer to show all files (control panel: folder options-->view-->files &folders-->hidden files and folders, select radio button that says "show hidden files and folders" uncheck the boxes that say "hide extensions for known file types" & "hide protected operating system files"), the I turned off all of my real time protection, script scanners, system guards, firewalls (making sure the default windows stuff was off). BUT: I could not alter anything w/ reguard to Process Guard. My computer will not allow me to either open the Process Guard window where I can disable active protection, and it will not stop running, either. SO, I went ahead and double clicked my the wrjo9tul.exe file. Then I select "run" and then I get this error message: "Load Driver (".\fwtyipob.sys) error 0xC000003A: The system could not find the specfied path. I clicked OK and it proceeded to open GMER anyway, and then I hit scan, and it seemed to scan, but didn't finish with a log and didn't detect changes to the configuration or whatever--I can't remember the exact wording, but it didn't find anything, it says. But Process Guard is actively preventing modification, termination, and reading between processes right now, and I cannot either get into the PG settings to disable them or uninstall it (because you have to disable it before it can be uninstalled).

What to do, what to do?
Thank you....... !!!

Hi,

Please go here and have a look how you can disable your security software.

Download Combofix from any of the links below but rename it to before saving it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on the renamed Combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

If you need help, see this link:

(one quick thing, the only user account we use is "Brian"--but I did at one point make a "Eugenesis" acct that no longer exists; I am not sure is guest account is on or off, but the "asp.net Machine" account came up on its own out of the blue. I tried deleting it a while back but it would just reappear on its own no matter what--just FYI as you read this log--one more thing: i think i am running windows in a selective startup mode. is that going to matter? i am surprised that as long as i have managed to be on the computer today it is not typing its funky characters and locking itself and minimizing windows, etc...)

This is just an update since I ran the ComboFix log ^above^ -- I had to shut down my computer for a while (dinner) anyway, when I rebooted, I did not go into any "mode" on my own, and my computer did not not go into "selective startup" on its own (of which it notifies me if it does--and has been doing so on its own if I did not automatically go into a special mode manually). In addition, my desktop wallpaper is no longer just black (I did not choose black, I actually had a pic up a while ago, but it disappeared w/ all the computer wierdness, and has been black since), now my desktop is the default Toshiba wallpaper that it was when this computer came out of the box. I realize this may not mean anything, but I am hopeful it is an omen of the beginning of the return to happy stable normal computer. OMG: and I just noticed that my computer clock is finally back to normal, too! YAY! grinner.gif

Looking forward to the next step! Thx-Heather

EDIT: I decided to stick around online after what I just wrote ^above^ and played MafiaWars on Facebook. Anyway, the 8k8h BS and the cascading of my open windows in 3D on my desktop and the moving me backward and forward through the webpages I had visited began again. sad.gif Oh well ::sigh::

Ok. I did the OTL but when I first opened it, I accidentally hit the scan button before I had pasted the custom scan you gave me, so I interrupted that scan and pasted in the custom scan and hit quick scan, but for some reason, the last line of your custom scan 'create restore point,' did not paste in and I didn't catch it before I did the scan. wacko.gif After the scan ran, there was only one log, the OTL log, and there was NO "extra" log minimized. Well, please let me know if I need to run the scan again.
Thank you so much!!!

Here is the one log that the OTL custom scan produced:
