After removing ZAS and installing NIS2010, all strange things started to happen. Began to receive error 0xc0000142 and 0xc0000042 when trying to either install a program or try cmd or msconfig. NIS2010 SONAR began to quarantine and mostly delete various System32 .exe files. Could not comply with your requested info since the files would not run. Removed NIS2010 with uninstall and Norton removal too, did a restore back to after ZAS was deleted with the ZoneAlarm removal tool, and installed Avast Home for temporary virus protection. After the install, the re-boot started a scan for the elimination of the web32:vitro virus and through the delete process the other three were indicated. Based on the Virut info from Avast, also ran the Virut removal tool without getting any additional deletions.

Currently dealing with the Avast for virus, can not operate Windows firewall, using OS Win7 Pro and connected to the broadband modem with a Linksys WRT600N router.

Many months back, I did have the Virut virus and did a complete re-install of the C drive. Did not at that time run any program that tried to eliminate infected files like Avast did. Looks like I need to do that again but do not want to have left over issues like before. It would appear that the infected files on the other 3 HDs have be deleted. So t would be a saving of the data on the C drive and doing a format with a reinstall of Win7.

Or maybe if you can see it.......................I might just be ok right now......................does not look like it.

Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Thank you for the response.

After having strange things that happen within the computer and were being deleted by Norton Internet Security 2010 with any explanation, I removed Norton and installed Avast home which during the reboot scan began to show what was the problem.

This issue was the Vitro virus which is part of the Virut Virus which I had thought was eliminated back in Jan of 2009.

Unfortunately, ZoneAlarm Suite did not bring this to my attention at that time and therefore I switched to Norton which I thought would be a better provider of information. As I learned both of these highly rated services did not provide the security that should have been provided.

In days of old, Norton use to provide a boot scan but today I can not locate it in the program.....................too bad! Maybe I just missed it...............is it still available?

Avast had substantial info on this strain of virus and after several messages stated that wipe the main drive with full reformat and reinstall.

I am just in the process of doing this and almost completed.

The big question that remains for me is whether to re-install Norton or just stay with Avast Home for Free or get there Security Suite.

My current feeling is that both of those highly rated items are questionable since neither were able to identify what the problem was but Norton just began to delelte almost all of my Win32 files which many were not infected. So whatever.................it appeared that there was no silver bullet to cure this and my only course was to reformat and start over.

Again............thank you for the response but I needed to get this taken care of before I would have lost any more files.
