Well, my computer has really gone down the drain, right now, i'm seeing file extensions, so it's like if it's an mp3 it'll say "filename.mp3" and now Hijackthis and Ad-aware freeze, and they won't complete there scans..so i'm basically stuck and can't fix my computer..please help.

You may have some corrupt segments on your harddrive. Click start, run and type in CHKDSK /R you will get a message about not being able to lock the drive would you like to run CHKDSK at the next reboot say YES the reboot. The process will take a little while to complete. Then try running hijackthis and adawre again the post back if it works or not.
