For months I have been getting spam emails at a yahoo address. They all go into my bulk folder and I believe that I heard a long time ago that it's caused by a worm. Well, this morning I got a couple of these spam emails in my inbox. Do the spam emails in my bulk folder mean that I have a virus? If so, what can I do to get rid of it? Even if it's not a virus, what can I do to stop these spam emails? Below is an example of the types of emails I get:

The more you give out your e-mail address, the more spam you will receive. It is as simple as that. Spam e-mail's are not virus' per say. But be most cautious of opening them. It is always best to not open any un-solicited spam e-mails. They then know that they have found a legitmate address. In the worst cases, these can be laden with virus'. The one that have an attachment, are the ones to be most concerned about.

Also, do not ever click on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of spam e-mails. That will verify that your e-mail addres is legit too. Spam e-mailer's trade and sell e-mail address', which multiplies the amount of spam you receive. Take my word on that. I have been there. I was receiving hundreds of spam e-mails daily. To where I had to trash an e-mail address. And start fresh.

It is a good idea to have at the very least two e-mail addy's. One for personal use and one as a throw away address. I use my second one for all correspondence that I am not quite sure about. Such as entering contests or anything related to a site (I am not quite sure about) that requires my e-mail address being submitted. That way personal e-mails and others that might bring in spam, are not mixed together.

If I am registering a trusted product (program) or registering on a trusted site. I use my personal one.

Treat spam as if it were a stranger knocking on your door. Now you would not open the door to a stranger, would you.

In order to prevent getting an e-mail virus, just do not ever open any of them, and delete them right away. Then take out the trash.

They all go into my bulk folder

This is what that bulk folder is for.

Yahoo is one of the biggest hypocrites in the business. They provide a mail service and spam blocking and give you a bulk mailbox for you to receive all of the spam they allow you to get .............................

I'll trade ya bulk mail, all I ever get is ads for women who want to meet me and weight loss spam .............................

In Yahoo mail, click sender box and this will check all of the items and then click delete. You can go into mail options and take each spam address and add it to a list to not download from the server, eventually, this will weed out most of it.

good luck,

This is good exercise for my delete key .............

You can see I have checked the "sender" box, which checked all of the mails for deletion.

Scarlett is right. The more you give out your e-mail the more spam comes back to you. I have some spam that I tried to click the unsubscribe link... and it caused a BSOD. After that I just let my e-mail sort out the chaff and delete everything. No more trying to unsubscribe. I find that the links in e-mails are to be avoided at all costs. If my Yahoo mail was getting that much spam I would make a new account.

Awwww,
it's no biggie, something to do after checking all of the boards..................

I use the bulk box addy(s) like Scarlett, for everything I don't want in my real mail box.

Yahoo allows one to have multiple "disposeable" addresses' so it's not that much to shut down one and make another, or in my case, have multiple addys with certain ones for certain reasons ..................

Fifteen in one day is alot, the most I have had is twenty two in one day !

if you're not close to your space limit - leave them - after 30 days in the bulk folder, they'll be cleaned out by the system. Find something PRODUCTIVE to do...
