Doing a scan with FileHippo's Update Checker told me a new version of Java, Java 6 Update 18 was available for download, I didn't download it there as I prefer to download Java from the Sun site. On going there I saw that the latest update was 17 which I already had installed. Has anyone else had their updater tell them a new version of Java is available.
This happened with the previous version 17 as well. File Hippo knew there was a new version before Sun Java. It seems strange that this can happen?.

Nope. I usually get any update notifications directly from Sun.

Some Java pages are known for being late.
If you look here: http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp it still says: Recommended Version 6 Update 17
...but...
JRE 6 Update 18 is surely available: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

P. S. Filehippo is perfectly safe site.
